98.6°F outdoor collection by Neri&Hu for De La Espada

Dezeen Showroom: Portuguese brand De La Espada has released a collection of outdoor furniture, 98.6°F, designed by Neri&Hu to be long-lasting and deceptively simple.

The all-wood 98.6°F collection is named after the "normal" human body temperature.

The collection features a dining table, dining chair, bench, lounge chair, coffee table and side table that De La Espada, which normally focuses on indoor furniture, describes as modest and versatile while also revealing "tectonic sophistication" up close.

The 98.6°F outdoor collection features wooden chairs and tables

All of the pieces are made from Croatian white oak, chosen because its high tannin content protects the wood from rot and allows it to have a longer life outdoors.

The furniture is finished with black oil, which darkens the grain and deepens the tone of the timber while making it water repellant.

The pieces are carefully engineered and made from high-quality Croatian white oak

Over time, the pieces in the 98.6°F collection will naturally age outdoors and take on a silver or dark grey patina.

Bowl table by Ayush Kasliwal for Mater

Dezeen Showroom: Mater has released a new version of its Bowl table by Indian designer Ayush Kasliwal, which is made from coffee waste mixed with recycled plastic.

"We're excited that we can now offer our Bowl table in both a sustainable version in mango wood and a circular version in our waste composite Mater Circular Material," said Mater founder and CEO Henrik Marstrand.

"Our goal is for our existing furniture collection to move from being sustainable to being circular."

The light grey version of the Bowl table is made with plastic waste and sawdust

The brand's Mater Circular Material combines fibrous industrial waste with a recycled plastic binder.

For the Bowl table, two versions of the material are available – one using coffee shell waste and the other sawdust as an aggregate, while plastic waste from bathroom fittings brand Grohe acts as the binder.

Mater aims to transition all of its production to circular materials

The sawdust version has a light grey colour while the coffee waste version comes in two different hues – black and beige.

Mater has a take-back system for its furniture, so all items can be returned to the manufacturer for recycling. The Mater Circular Material can be reprocessed up to five times.

Melt table collection by Marble Balloon

Dezeen Showroom: stone takes on the shape of running liquid in the Melt series of tables, created by Turkish brand Marble Balloon.

Designed by brand co-founders Ali Balkaya and Mert Cahit Ertural, the Melt collection includes a coffee table, side table and console, all with stone tops carved to look as if they are melting down the sides of the furniture.

The Melt table collection features stone tops carved to look as if they are dripping liquid

The designers were inspired by the Pamukkale Travertines from their native Turkey, where the deposits of white limestone look soft and cloud-like.

They wanted to craft a similar sensory illusion in the Melt collection, which combines stone tops with curved wood veneer bases.

A side table forms part of the collection, along with a coffee table and console

Marble Balloon describes the collection as "blurring the lines between solidity and fluidity".

The tabletops are available in either travertine or white sugar marble, while the wood veneer comes in either dark brown California Burl, cool-toned Grey Vavona, or golden Walnut Burl.

Shapes from Home furniture collection by Levi Christiansen

Dezeen Showroom: American designer Levi Christiansen journeyed into his childhood dreams to create the tables, seating and shelving in the Shapes from Home collection, which explores otherworldly imagery through woodwork.

Christiansen was inspired to create the Shapes from Home collection after his mother had a chance encounter with an oracle, who brought up the vivid dreams he'd had as a child.

The Shapes from Home collection includes the marble-topped Plural coffee table

It prompted him to revisit the imagery of those dreams, in which he frequently visited a home he'd never seen in real life. The surreal forms in the Shapes from Home collection are derived from those dreams.

The Plural coffee table, for example, features oblong panels of walnut wood with green marble tops and legs shaped like triangular prisms, blending rounded and angled shapes.

The Rhoco chair features a wedge-shaped backrest upholstered in wool and mohair boucle

Made with traditional woodworking techniques, the Rhoco chair contrasts a wedge-shaped backrest upholstered in wool and mohair boucle with a flat, tapered frame.

The Juntos shelf has subtle divisions in its symmetry that emphasise the beauty of the cascading joinery while the Straddle side table has a sculptural presence, with two playfully tapered legs holding up a cantilevered top.

The Juntos shelf is made from solid walnut wood

Finally, the There, There sofa is almost fully upholstered in ink-coloured leather, with a contrasting timber back and feet. All of the pieces are made with solid walnut wood.

"While Shapes From Home is inspired by an abstract idea, my design philosophy is rooted in creating balanced and beautiful furniture," said Christiansen.

Accanta tables by Maddalena Casadei for Pretziada

Dezeen Showroom: designed by Maddalena Casadei for Pretziada, the Accanta tables are carved from Sardinian cork and based on a type of furniture traditional to the region.

Accanta is a trio of small tables that reference a traditional stool with a cork bark seat that Casadei observed in Sardinia.

The Accanta Reading table is the largest in the series

The traditional stools are lightweight, durable and versatile. They would often be carried by people taking sheep out to pasture or picking olives.

Casadei's versions are pressed and carved entirely from Sardinian cork, which is left completely natural with no varnish or lacquer.

All three tables are carved from cork that's left unvarnished

"Cork is a material that has always fascinated me because it is part of the Mediterranean and especially Sardinian culture," said Casadei. "Cork oak is essential for the local ecosystem and its processing does not harm plants, animals or humans."

Accanta comes in three sizes: a larger reading table and a smaller teacup table and magazine table.

The tables are made in collaboration with the family-run workshop Falegnameria Pisu, which created the dense waste cork blocks used for Accanta.

Marea by Zanellato/Bortotto for De Castelli

Dezeen Showroom: Italian design studio Zanellato/Bortotto has created a collection of hand-finished metal cabinets, drawers and sideboards for De Castelli that have been oxidised to create a watercolour-style effect.

Named Marea, which translates as "the tide" in Italian, the cabinetry was designed to reflect a changing-skin effect that loosely references the shore and waves of water.

The collection has a metal construction

The collection was informed by the idea of metal as a living and changing material. This concept led the designers to use overlapping oxidations across metal to create an ombre watercolour effect.

The Marea collection has a rectangular square form and comprises a chest of drawers, two sideboards and a cabinet, all of which are available in three different colourways – a golden finish, an orange-brassy ombre and a sea blue.

The cabinetry has a watercolour finish

"Like the tide leaves its mark, wave after wave, even here the hand of the craftsman has left its sign, oxidation after oxidation, creating a painterly effect that resembles water’s erosion of the material," said De Castelli.
