The BBC put together a 4-step way to spot misinformation. It's basic, but with EU, US, and UK elections this year it's worth reviewing.
The most important thing is to slow down and not spread an item without giving it proper examination. In most cases there's no need to hurriedly share something.
Sticking to known reliable sources of news is essential. Beware of fake sources which use names that deceptively sound like legit sources but aren't.
