Tattoo push through July, with some self work and the first sessions booked for an enormous client piece we've been channeling for some time now and finally get to begin work on.

I'll be ceasing work on tattoos in mid August for the following few months, as we prepare for the upcoming birth of our next child. In the meantime, there are some exciting conversations happening around the future of my practice and I'm hoping to have some details to share early next year, dependent on how the winter goes.

My morning client cancelled, but my partner had already planned on giving me the time, so I was finally able to finish this cholla skeleton-inspired ritual work on my leg.

This image is of the right leg of a person with somewhat fair skin. Two other tattoos are somewhat visible in the frame, but the focus is of a stylized segment of a cholla (a kind of a cactus) skeleton, which looks a bit like a branch fragment with a pattern of holes throughout. The tattooer has extended the branch in a stylized way, trailing the terminal ends of it into simple sigils comprised of intersecting lines and dots. The tattoo has been hand poked, so the shading is dotwork.

It's been a wonderfully busy and full few weeks, with lots of learning and decisions being made. And I have been drawing, too, but too preoccupied to share (which I love, quite honestly).

A surreal, twisted graphite drawing of a piece of "desert driftwood" -- inexplicably occurring shards of wood that appear in the sand, usually not close to any vegetation that would have spawned them. This wood is twisted, knotty, and broken in strange places. Siin has terminated each trailing twisted branch with freehand sigils and dotwork, hiding her signature in amongst the freeflowing lines somewhere.

The focus is on a tattoo on a person's leg, situated on the outside of the knee above another tattoo (of a Mnervis bull, the horns of which are visible). The tattoo is a stylized segment of a cholla skeleton, which looks somewhat like a branch with a bunch of holes throughout it. Through some of the holes other holes are visible, though the tattoo isn't yet shaded. Small, tiny lines demonstrating texture appear throughout the tattoo, and on either end (it's oriented vertically) the tattoo culminates in a fork that trails into a spiky tendril.

Mars in Capricorn trined Jupiter in Taurus at 10:42am GMT. This energy to get things done has been building for the past couple of days, bringing tangible rewards for our efforts. It's time to finish the week strong, enjoying the confidence in our own capabilities that this transit has been bringing, knowing how much of our good fortune is the result of our own patient and disciplined efforts.

Mercury stations direct in Capricorn at 3:08am GMT, once again reminding us to pay attention to data and communication, and the practical consequences of neglecting organization. Hopefully we've spent the retrograde that is now ending reconsidering how what we think and say affects our bottom line, so that now we can move forward with concrete plans and increased clarity.

Ritual inkwork, sternum

The idea was a straight line (cut into the center of the chest during my most recent ritual performance), bisection, duality, regeneration & the straddling of lines (and barriers, and borders).

But as I was doing the torturous work of connect the dots between pounding heartbeats, lacking the leverage to properly stretch, suffering for this idea of this perfect straight line, I began to shift states, and without thinking began freehanding in a way I would be incapable of on paper. I have never been great at abstraction, only distortion, and perhaps this is what this is, but I could not have pre-drawn this tattoo, it just had to emerge for itself.

So much more than bisection, nuanced and raw, freed of perfection.

I would love to do more like this. This was transformative, beautiful, and energizing.
