Fresh tractor eggs.

I paid in blood for this photo. Damn horseflies were sucking me dry in the time it takes for the phone to snap a picture 🩸

A big round hay bale wrapped in white plastic is sitting on a mowed field. In the distance, more such white tractor eggs, illuminated by the setting sun. A neighbouring farm and a small forest are visible in the distance.

@vaviurka He's finished just before midnight. Today it's drizzling again, but the hay will soon start fermenting away inside its plastic wrappers with whatever moisture it had when baling.

Basically sauerkraut for cows.

Same field across the road as before. The hay is now all collected, tightly baled and wrapped in white plastic sheets. It's sitting on the ends out in the field at regular intervals, looking like white plastic blocks.

There's more rainclouds above it and the farm buildings in the distance.

A University of #Missouri extension livestock specialist suggests seeding summer annuals to #drought-stricken pastures with the hopes of having fall #forage available for livestock.

There's also #soilage / #greenchop or the not-so-dissimilar #silage as an alternate, should nearby rowcrops already be considered not harvestable for grain.

Silage Smurfs.

Well to be honest I am unsure if they are baleage or silage, but alliteration is great.

A photo of the entrance to a dairy, taken from State Highway 1 (the main road from Cape Reinga to Bluff, running the length of New Zealand).

Alongside the driveway are eight baleage rolls - a bit like giant lego heads, stacked in twos. Each is blue and has a hat on it. Oh and a face, so they look like Smurfs. The four Smurfs from left to right are one that looks like Sleepy Smurf, Papa Smurf, Brainy Smurf and Smurfette.

To the left of the baleage Smurfs is a big macrocarpa hedge, with a gap for the driveway. Coming through the hedge is a pink and white milk tanker. It is just emerging, in a cloud of dust, so only the cap and front of the first tanks is visible.

Being a farm, there are also several fences and other roadside infrastructure, including a power pole and sign.

Oh and there is grass. It is green.A photo of the entrance to a dairy, taken from State Highway 1 (the main road from Cape Reinga to Bluff, running the length of New Zealand).

To the right can be seen the entrance to the farm from State Highway 1; barrelling southward and on the right side of the road from this vantage point, is a white truck and double trailer . It has two tall covered bins - maybe carrying something like stockfeed. Or chocolate chips.

On January 15, 1895, Finnish chemist and Nobel Laureate Artturi Ilmari Virtanen was born. Virtanen invented AIV silage which improved milk production and a method of preserving butter, the AIV salt, which led to increased Finnish butter exports.

A postal stamp depicting finnish nobel laureate A. I. Virtanen. He is wearing a white lab coat over a dark suit with gray tie and white shirt. From the looks, he seems to be in his 50s or 60s. In his hand, he is holding one of three depicted Erlenmayer flasks, which seem to contain some plant that grows out if it. On top of the flask it already has some green leaves, in the flask, we can see roots. The caption says "A. I. VIRTANEN", "NOBEL 1945", "CHIMIE", "1.30", "SUOMI FINLAND", "EUROPA", "1980".

It's about 2km from home to #ChunCastle - the round trip is almost enough to the drain excess energy from puppy Jack.
This year's #silage bale fashion seems to be mint humbug. Field is just west of #ChunQuoit.
