Today:
- Kelvingrove Park was the ideal place to walk on such a warm (27 degree) day, with cool shady trees
- we found the Kelvin Walkway but not the @glasgowpenguins - yet…
- marks the end of my first (successful) working week on my research fellowship

Today:

- I did some small but satisfying tasks in the garden, pruning hydrangeas and pulling out the old sweet peas, saving seeds for next season

- for Matariki we remembered friends and family who have died this past year. Though my dad died in the 1970s, we shared memories of him too, since it was also his anniversary and birthday this week

- I finished The Book of Guilt by Catherine Chidgey. Hard to put down, an excellent but disturbing read

Today:

- I had a good baking session

- I found a forgotten tasty pie in the freezer, which was good as I was all out of energy for cooking dinner

- I decided I’d like some fingerless gloves for cold days and remembered I gave mine to Mum a few years ago when she was ill. She no longer uses them so returned them to me, along with a second pair that are really nice and warm

- we walked along the Clyde before work
- I had a meet and greet with one of the sports clubs and their disabled athletes

Today:

- it’s my father’s birthday, though he died young many years back. In honour of the occasion Mum dug out an ancient cassette tape of him speaking. It’s hard to describe the sensation of hearing his voice after so long.

- the above tape had broken, but with the help of the Instructables website I managed to mend it. I was extremely pleased with myself!

- leftovers made dinner easy

Today had its bad moments, but there were good things too:

- I saw a friend who lives in hospital-level care and he and his wife were as always pleased to have a visit

- I walked in lovely sunshine

- when I pop in to Mum’s for a cuppa there’s often a kererū about, and today we had a very closeup view of it in the tree right next to her window

Today:

- I am very thankful to complete another journey around the Sun in reasonable health, something I don’t take for granted after 2 different cancers in recent years!

- I met up with friends for a nice afternoon tea in town

- I had a lovely walk in the winter sunshine

Branching out to multiple hashtags
(really just copied from Ali)

I'm very grateful that in my mastodon feed I get posts pretty seamlessly in multiple languages and from a good spread of wonderful people;

that today, after I refilled the bowl for the birds on a cold, drizzly morning,
there were five tui sitting on the rim of the bowl (that was all the space there was) while four others were waiting in the kotukutuku (tree fuchsia) outside the kitchen window;

that the creek, close to the house, doesn't flood, even after long, heavy rain. It just flows ever faster and sounds like there's constant, drumming rain on the roof.

Today:

- the bread I baked turned out especially well

- someone told me they often refer to one of my books, great to hear it’s so useful

- I know I mentioned this yesterday too, but I was so grateful for my wet weather gear again today. I arrived home from my walk dripping wet, literally, but when I took off my hiking boots, rain jacket and rain pants my clothes underneath were completely dry. A little bit of magic!

Today:

- after several days of dreary wet weather we had sunshine, no rain and not much wind (it was still cold though!)

- I did some gardening and I’m now halfway through my project to tidy the veg patch

- a chirpy pīwakawaka kept me company in the garden

Today I got the bus into town for a few errands. Highlights included:

- I ground some fresh peanut butter at Bin Inn, love those machines!

- I found 2 great mugs at an op shop to replace some broken ones. They’re large porcelain mugs, perfect for that early morning cup of tea. I paid the princely sum of $1.50 for both.

- I went to one of my favourite places, the public library, and exchanged my books

Some simple pleasures and ordinary joys:

💚 Knitting a snuggly cowl out of luscious soft yarn (the knitting was a pleasure and now I get to enjoy wearing it!)

💚 Reading a good book with a hot cuppa and a friendly cat

💚 Coming home to a sun-warmed house on a chilly day

💚 Discovering other people who care, too

💚 The crispy magnificence of a frosty morning with all the plants rimmed with ice

💚

What are some of your simple pleasures and ordinary joys?

💚

Today:

- I got caught in a hailstorm during my daily walk, but there was a handy tree nearby and that protected me until it passed

- I saw a nice rainbow for the 2nd day in a row

- my sister was going to be home alone (which she isn’t used to!) so she joined Mum in coming here for dinner

Today:

- I saw a beautiful rainbow

- I wore the jersey I finished knitting recently and it was warm and comfortable on this cold day

- I finished reading a great book I highly recommend, The Serviceberry: An Economy of Gifts and Abundance by Robin Wall Kimmerer. I feel that 3 good things, expressing gratitude for the gifts of the day, fits nicely with the ethic of the gift economy.

Today:
- we got our walk in well ahead of the rain which started mid morning
- I got my (9th) COVID vax
- we have a hearty slow-cooked wild pork and bean stew (with mash and slaw) for dinner, thanks to past me and the freezer
