Verona
The Italian city of love, as it is the city where supposedly the ultimately sad love story of Romeo and Juliet took place. It's a beautiful old town, especially at the iconic and over two millennia old Ponte Pietra (Stone Bridge), looking out over the Adige river. I was lucky with this colourful evening sky. The water level that year was very low, laying bare the rocks that cause the rapids in the river.

The longest bridge in the Netherlands (5022m) can be found in the Zeeland province. Hence its not very original name. Long ago, this used to be a toll bridge. After the construction loan was repaid with the toll that was charged for almost 25 years, though, passing the bridge became free of charge.

Beach
An evening visit to the beach has never been a bad idea. How privileged I am to live a bike ride away from the sea. This particular evening, I arrived at the beach just as the sun dipped below the horizon. No worries, though: the horizon was mostly clear and there were beautiful clouds. It was only a matter of patience until the sky would start to catch all the colours. That didn't take long. And when it happened, these structures in the sand, together with the puddle, made for a perfect foreground.

Flower Carpet
Once I entered this old patch of woods at the edge of my hometown, the wild garlic aroma was thick. In between the trees, the forest floor was a patched flower carpet of white and purplish blue. How I love this place in spring. Because of the large quantity of bluebells, I find myself here each year again.

This is part of the largest warehouse district in the world with warehouses built on wooden foundations. I had an evening to spare in Hamburg, so I decided to spend it in the HafenCity neighbourhood. This shot was my reward. A perfect blue hour on the bridge looking out to the infamous Wasserschloss.

When I drove past this field of heather, with a layer of fog in the valley and a sky above it that was starting to catch the colours of the imminent sunrise, I knew I had to stop. There wasn't a parking spot to be found anywhere, though. I turned around three times, until I finally decided that a not-so-very-official spot would have to do for the moment. Once I had gathered my gear and walked through the fence and onto the path through the field, the compositions practically presented themselves. The sky was exploding all around me, and the fog was still there. It was a wonderful early morning.

📝 I had already taken some pictures of great tits and chaffinches. That's why I was looking for a special background. I noticed this incidence of light on a young tree. So I pointed the camera there and waited for a bird to land. At first, the birds always landed facing the wrong way, but after a long wait, they finally landed in the right position. This is a photo of it.
ℹ️ The Great Tit (Parus major) belongs to the family of tits and is the most common tit in Europe. It grows up to 15 cm tall, has a wingspan of up to 23 cm and has a very varied diet (e.g. insects, larvae, nuts). Male great tits have a continuous black stripe on their belly and neck. These are broken in females.

📝 Ich hatte schon einige Bilder von Kohlmeisen und Buchfinken geknipst. Deswegen habe ich nach einen besonderen Hintergrund gesucht. Mir ist da dieser Lichteinfall mit einem jungen Baum aufgefallen. Also habe ich die Kamera dahin ausgerichtet und gewartet, bis ein Vogel dort landet. Erst sind die Vögel immer mit der falschen Blickrichtung gelandet, aber nach langen warten auch mal in passender Position. Das ist ein Foto davon.
ℹ️ Die Kohlmeise (Parus major) gehört zur Familie der Meisen und ist die häufigste Meise Europas. Sie wird bis zu 15 cm groß hat eine Spannweite von bis zu 23 cm und ernährt sich sehr vielseitig (z.B. Insekten, Larven, Nussfrüchte). Männliche Kohlmeisen haben einen durchgehenden schwarzen Streifen am Bauch und am Hals. Bei Weibchen sind diese unterbrochen.

Alpenglow, the orange-coloured first light of the day, falls on the towering mountains in the background, with the Cristallo massif on the left, with four peaks of over 3000 metres, of which Monte Cristallo is the highest, with a height of 3221 metres.

A rocky beach on the western shore of Lago di Garda, with beautiful views over Italy's largest lake. Here I was looking out over the San Fermo peninsula and Isola del Garda. While this is a private beach, meant for guests of the vacation homes and restaurants adjacent to it, it was all but deserted this early in the morning.

I love landscapes like this. Lines of poles running into the sea; what's not to like? Couple that with a nice sunset and I'm a happy person. While beaches like this are normally associated with the Dutch province of Zeeland, I know of a spot in Noord-Holland that has these poles, too. But don't tell anybody else, okay?
