Finished a sketch today. l am on a copying the Old Masters kick. It’s a great way to learn. This is based on the Old Master work “The Bride,” 1886, by Anders Zorn (1860-1920), watercolor, in the collection of the Nationalmuseum, Stockholm, the national gallery of fine arts of Sweden. Drawn freehand on my iPad Pro using the Sketch Club app. About 2 hours work. I’d have to work way longer to come close to the real painting. #digitalart #ipadart #sketchclubapp

With wildflowers on my mind, I decided to do a wildflower sketch. Based on a personal photo as I wasn’t up to sitting outside in the oak pollen for that length of time! Drawn freehand on my iPad Pro using the Sketch Club app. About an hour and 45 minutes work. #digitalart #ipadart #sketchclubapp
Yesterday I posted the painting “Julia, Lady Peel,” 1827, by Thomas Lawrence (1769–1830). Later in the day I finished a sketch based on the painting. It would take untold hours to come close to the original, and I don’t have the patience. This sketch clocked in at one hour and 45 minutes. Drawn freehand on my iPad Pro using the Sketch Club app. #digitalart #ipadart #sketchclubapp

I’ve been trying to ease back into artwork after my bout with double pneumonia. This is a quick study (an hour and 15 minutes) of “A Portrait of a Young Gentleman” (known as “The Blue Boy”), by Thomas Gainsborough (1727–1788). Drawn freehand on my iPad Pro using the Sketch Club app. I’m not going to work further on it. It would take untold hours to even come close to the original. Right now, I don’t have the energy. I’ll post the original as a comment. #digitalart #ipadart #sketchclubapp
Here’s a sketch I’ve been working on. Not sure how to title it. Portrait in Profile, maybe? Based on a photo reference. Drawn freehand on my iPad Pro using the Sketch Club app. #digitalart #ipadart #sketchclubapp #artapp #digitalartist
Tap each to see full-length. Quick sketches from a cosplay sketch I attended (and posed for) last night. Drawn freehand on my iPad Pro using the Sketch Club app. The poses ranged from 3 to 10 minutes, so had to sketch fast! I only got in a few drawings, because I was trading out with another cosplayer on posing. And, I made $44.00 in tips, which with an attendance of about 10 people, who were tipping both me and the other gal, that’s not bad!
All 4 of these were the same gal, cosplaying as a witch with the traditional pointy hat and a black dress.
Click for full-length. My latest sketch, “Homage to Whistler,” and the painting it’s based on by James McNeill Whistler (1834–1903): Symphony in White, No. 1: The White Girl (1862), portrait of Joanna Hiffernan, oil on canvas, 83.8x42.4 in (213x107.9 cm), National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC.
As artists we have so much to learn from the Old Masters. I worked 4 hours on this one, and I’d have to put in another 40 to begin to come close to the original. I wish I could go to Washington, DC and sit in front of it to sketch. The colors online are never exactly what they are in person.

One of my own art works, in this case based on Study in Black and Green, c. 1906, by John White Alexander (1856–1915). About 2 and a half hours work. We have so much to learn from artists of the past. I see so many glaring errors, but I’d have to work 40+ more hours to get close to the original. Maybe I’ll return to it, but I think I need to give it a rest. Drawn freehand on my iPad Pro using the Sketch Club app
