Browser Independence.

Migrating my bookmark collection out of the #firefox sync-service and into #emacs #orgmode using #syncthing and #orgzlyrevived .

I provide a tinytiny #elisp function to help out.

#slackware gets a cameo in a footnote.

In all excitement et all I tend to forget how solid nwg-shell on Sway actually is. All frills if you want them, it just works. Foot as terminal is making a strong comeback also. Slackware Tilers has been my main home for 40 days now. Ain't leaving anytime soon.

If you want to hack on the RPi5 support for Slackware AArch64, see if you can help get the hardware stood up -- see the post here:

I may be biased, but I think Slackware deserves a place with the "normal" distros like it's younger sibling SUSE and cousin Debian. Sure, stuff like LVM, LUKS, and installing packages not included with base can be a bit daunting, but putting it with Arch and the like I think is unfair... #Slackware

Playing around with , it seems pretty cool. I'm still trying to unlearn some of the -isms, but I managed to get real-time clock and battery updates here on .

It especially helped that I patched dwl to use IPC.

Also, obligatory fastfetch.

Only problem I've encountered is that j4-dmenu-desktop and Discord no longer launch where they used to. I'll need to sort that out, but the Discord web client and manually executing Flatpak apps works too.

A screenshot of my dwl install on Slackware, complete with real-time status in the dwlb bar, and an obligatory fastfetch.

Really liking those config options on Noctalia.

Scrot of a ghostty window, main emphasis on the bar of Noctalia Shell

When you have your Mango fresh and up and running on Slackware. And you get bored with DankMaterialShell? There's always Noctalia coming to the rescue 😜
Another fine production by @jloc0 on Slackware Current!

@jloc0 As said before: it's been a great ride, thanks for all your efforts! And enough wonderful x86 geekiness remaining to enjoy, such as nwg-shell, sway, niri, mangowc, dank material shell, noctalia, ghostty to name just a few πŸ˜„

Universe is another word for Cosmos, hence Universix as the name for the bootc Cosmic image I've cooked today. And it worked out very well. More on that tomorrow. Back home an updated MangoWC on Slackware waited for me! Great diversions from a shiite day at the races.

I put online my poorly hacked/patched/commented slackbuilds for obs-studio 32.0.4 along with source tarballs required and built packages for aarch64/x86_64 #slackware -current.

It all builds and works for me, if anyone wants to test OBS and doesn't want to deal with flatpak, give credit to all the folks who wrote these slackbuilds I shamelessly stole and bent to my will.

For my #mpd frontend this is is about it! _Almost_ pure qml except for the visualizer which is a nasty, but sane enough hack.
I'll probably code my own with Qt c++ , fft and cairo (at least I'm good with one of those πŸ‘… ).

Not much chop with python either but seems like a good choice for the backend, especially since there will be more front facing stuff like playlists, album list, whole collection lists etc.

Slackware isn’t about shortcuts.
It’s about understanding the system, from boot to shell.

This video explains well why Slackware still matters.

If I ever managed to find a 3100 from 1989, what'd be the overall likelihood that I could get modern of some kind running on what was at one point the world's fastest MIPS-powered workstation (for all of a few months iirc)? Because I think brute-forcing some sort of installation would go great in place of or alongside it.

I know supports the device, so I imagine Linux support exists for this specific machine too, right?

A photo I found online of a DECstation 3100, complete with keyboard, mouse, and monitor. For a time, this was the world's fastest Unix workstation upon release in 1989, though it was quickly outdone a few months later by the first SPARCstation model from Sun Microsystems if memory serves me correct. This machine ran Ultrix, DEC's own proprietary Unix OS, based on BSD. Though Ultrix is long discontinued, NetBSD continues to support it, and potentially also Linux, that topic being the subject of the post to which this image and alt text are attached.
