Und jetzt zu meiner allerliebsten Klasse im #zughundesport : #dogscooter mit zwei Hunden, DS2. Auf dem Foto seht ihr meine beiden Hunde, Bounty und Mette, bei einem Rennen im Oktober 2018. Eines meiner ersten Rennen, auf dem ich mit beiden Hunden am Scooter gestartet bin. Mit den zwei Leichtgewichten ist das natürlich etwas anderes als mit zwei starken Hunden, aber trotzdem toll. Ich liebe dieses Bild so sehr, dass es sogar mein Auto ziert. Tollerweise habe ich die Möglichkeit, auch mit Ylvi immer wieder mal im Gespann mit einem anderen Hund zu fahren, mit ihrem Kumpel Rumo. Bei den beiden heißt es: rollern bis die Bremsen glühen. Hab ich beim letzten Mal zumindest geschafft. :D Leider hab ich davon noch kein schönes Foto. Aber ich hoffe sehr, dass sich das bald ändert. Das gibt's dann natürlich hier.

And now to my very favourite category in #sleddogsports : #dogscooter with two dogs, DS2. In the photo you can see my two dogs, Bounty and Mette, at a race in October 2018, one of my first races where I started with both dogs on the scooter. With the two lightweights it is of course something different than with two strong dogs, but still great. I love this picture so much that I even have it on my car. It's great that I also have the opportunity to team up Ylvi with another dog from time to time, her mate Rumo. With these two, it's all about driving until the brakes glow. Very fast, very awesome. At least that's what happened last time and I needed new brake pads afterwards. :D Unfortunately I don't have a nice photo of it yet. But I really hope that will change soon. You'll find it here, of course.

Und dann ist da noch das Schlitten fahren. Der "echte" Schlittenhundesport. Mit Schnee und Kufen unter den Füßen. Der leise, stille Sport - zumindest, wenn die Hunde mal laufen. Nur das Atmen der Hunde und die Geräusche, die der Schlitten macht, wenn er durch den Schnee gezogen wird. Das ist eindrucksvoll und wundervoll. Das Foto entstand 2021 im Februar. Und zwar in Brandenburg. Bei mir um die Ecke. Da hatten wir so viel Schnee, dass eine Freundin mit ihren Huskys aus der Nähe von Hamburg angereist kam, um bei uns Schlitten zu fahren. Das war wirklich einmalig. Ein Jahr zuvor waren wir gemeinsam in Schwedich Lappland, ebenfalls um Schlitten zu fahren. Auf dem Foto seht ihr meine beiden Hunde, Mette und Bounty, im Lead (ganz vorn) und einen Hund meiner Freundin, Yukon, im Wheel.

And then there's the sledding. The real sled dog sport. With snow and runners under your feet. The quiet, silent sport - at least when the dogs are running (it can get deafeningly loud at the start). Just the breathing of the dogs and the sounds the sled makes as it is pulled through the snow. It's impressive and wonderful. The photo was taken in February 2021. In Brandenburg. Just round the corner from where I live. We had a lot of snow so that a friend came from near Hamburg with her huskies to go sledging with us. That was really unique. A year earlier, we had travelled to Swedish Lapland together, also to go sledding. In the photo you can see my two dogs, Mette and Bounty, in the lead (at the front) and one of my friend's dogs, Yukon, in the wheel.

Ylvi und ich bei unserem #dogscooter Start bei einem Schlittenhunderennen im November letzten Jahres. Jetzt endlich sind wir bei meiner liebsten Form des #zughundesport angekommen: Dogscooter. Oder kurz auch DS1, wenn mit einem Hund gefahren wird - es gibt auch DS2, dann wird im Gespann mit zwei Hunden gefahren. Ich liebe dieses Gefährt einfach! Auch das ist eine sehr schnelle Sportart, aber hier ist der Mensch deutlich limitierender als am Rad. Am Rad lässt sich besser unterstützen, am Scooter mittreten ist wirklich kräftezehrend. Aber es macht so viel Spaß! Ich liebe auch das Eigentraining im Sommer am Scooter sehr. Am zweiten März-Wochenende starten Ylvi und ich in dieser Klasse bei einem Rennen.

Ylvi and I at our #dogscooter start at a sled dog race in November last year. Now we've finally arrived at my favourite form of #zughundesport: Dogscooter. Or DS1 for short, when going with one dog - there is also DS2, when you go in a team with two dogs. I just love this vehicle! This is also a very fast sport, but here the human is much more of a limiting factor than on a bike. It's easier to provide support on a bike, but pedalling along on a scooter is really exhausting. But it's so much fun! I also really love my own training on the scooter in summer. Ylvi and I will be racing in this class on the second weekend in March.

Mette und ich beim #bikejoring bei einem Schlittenhunderennen im November 2019. Das war ein anstrengendes Rennen: Doppelstart! Einmal mit Bounty am Bike und einmal mit Mette. Aber Spaß hat's gemacht. Treten bis die Beine brennen. Das #bikejöring ist eine besonders schnelle Form des #zughundesport . Zumindest, wenn man einen schnellen Hund hat. ;) Auch das geht natürlich gemütlich, je nach Hundetyp. Und egal wie schnell oder langsam: Spaß macht es allemal, die Hunde arbeiten zu sehen, die flappenden Ohren von hinten zu beobachten. Und noch schöner ist nach so einem Rennen auf den Fotos die happy Faces der #dogs zu sehen. Beim #bikejøring braucht der Hund ebenfalls ein Zuggeschirr, es braucht eine flexible Leine (Jöringleine) - die ist beim Bikejöring länger als beim #canicross und eine Halterung am Rad (Bikeantenne), die verhindert, dass die Leine sich um das Rad wickelt, sollte der Hund mal langsamer werden oder abrupt bremsen. Am Bike bin ich mit Ylvi im Training auch öfter unterwegs, vor allem, wenn Temporunden mit viel Unterstützung gefahren werden sollen. Noch wohler fühle ich mich allerdings am #dogscooter. Dazu morgen mehr.

Mette and I #bikejoring at a sled dog race in November 2019. That was an exhausting race: Double start! One time with Bounty on the bike and one time with Mette. But it was fun. Pedalling until your legs burn. #bikejöring is a particularly fast form of #sleddogsports . At least if you have a fast dog ;) Of course, this can also be done at a leisurely pace, depending on the type of dog. And no matter how fast or slow: it's always fun to see the dogs work, to watch the flapping ears from behind. And it's even nicer to see the happy faces of the #dogs in the photos after such a race. For #bikejøring, the dog also needs a harness, a flexible lead (jøring leash) - which is longer for bikejöring than for #canicross - and a holder on the bike (bike antenna), which prevents the leash from wrapping around the tyre if the dog slows down or stopps abruptly. I also use the bike with Ylvi during training, especially when I want to do speed laps with a lot of support. However, I feel even more comfortable on the #dogscooter. More on that tomorrow.

Bounty und ich beim #canicross auf einem Hindernislauf mit Hund im März 2018. Das war unser erstes Event dieser Art. Los ging es für uns mit dem #zughundesport etwa 2015. Ich trat dann, nachdem ich eine Weile mit Bounty herum gestümpert hatte, in einen Verein ein, um diesen Sport von Grund auf richtig zu lernen. Beim Canicross laufen Mensch und Hund zusammen - im besten Fall im Tempo des Hundes. Dabei trägt der Hund ein Zuggeschirr, der Mensch einen Hüftgurt und das Team ist über eine flexible Leine (Jöringleine) verbunden. Canicross ist für mich die Disziplin, in der das Team am engsten zusammenarbeitet, schließlich läuft auch der Mensch. Top-Sportler:innen können beim Canicross Geschwindigkeiten von mehr als 20 km/h im Schnitt erreichen (schnellste Läuferin bei der IFSS EM in Finland 2024 auf 5 km: ∅ 21,3 km/h, schnellster Läufer: ∅ 23,4 km/h). Nix für uns, aber beeindruckend zu sehen. Wenn ihr mal Gelegenheit habt, bei einem Rennen zuzuschauen und euch für's #laufen interessiert, lasst euch das nicht entgehen. Was Mensch und Hund da leisten ist wirklich beeindruckend.

Bounty and I doing #canicross at an obstacle course with dogs in March 2018. This was our first event of this kind. We started with #sleddogsports around 2015, and after messing around with Bounty for a while, I joined a club to learn the sport properly from scratch. In canicross, humans and dogs run together - ideally at the dog's pace. The dog wears a harness, the human wears a hip belt and the team is connected by a flexible leash (jøring leash). For me, canicross is the discipline in which the team works most closely together. Top athletes can reach average speeds of more than 20 km/h in canicross (fastest female runner at the IFSS European Championships in Finland 2024 over 5 km: ∅ 21.3 km/h, fastest male runner: ∅ 23.4 km/h). Nothing for us, but impressive to see. If you ever have the opportunity to watch a race and are interested in #running, don't miss it. What man and dog achieve is really impressive.

Ylvi startet mit Schwung in die neue Woche. Wahrscheinlich nur noch wenige Wochen bleiben uns für das, was Ylvi und ich gemeinsam tun: den #zughundesport. Ylvi ist ein Europäischer Schlittenhund und kam zu mir, weil ich mir lange schon einen Hund gewünscht habe, der ebenso dafür brennt wie ich. Was Zughundesport ist? In meinem Fall ist es Schlittenhundesport, nur dass Ylvi kein Husky ist und dass wir keinen Schlitten brauchen, um diesen Sport zu betreiben. Ich lasse mich von Ylvi am Mountainbike (#bikejoring #bikejöring) oder am Scooter (Mountainbike-ähnlicher Tretroller #dogscooter) durch den Wald ziehen. Wichtig ist nur: Es muss kalt genug sein. Ab etwa 15 Grad fangen wir im Herbst an und hören im Frühjahr wieder auf.

Ich werde die nächsten Tage mal in meinem Foto-Fundus wühlen und schauen, ob ich alle Formen des #zughundesports abbilden kann.

Ylvi starts the new week with drive. We probably only have a few weeks left to do what Ylvi and I do together: #sleddogsports. Ylvi is a European Sleddog and came to me because I have long wanted a dog that is as passionate about this sport as I am. You can see, you don't need a husky and a sled to practise this sport. I let Ylvi pull me through the forest on a mountain bike (#bikejoring #bikejöring) or on a mountain bike-like scooter (#dogscooter). The only important thing is that it has to be cold enough. We start at around 15 degrees in autumn and stop again at around 15 degrees in spring.

Over the next few days, I'm going to rummage through my photo collection and see if I can capture all forms of #zughundesport.

Vorstellungsrunde! #neuhier ist mit mir auch Ylvi. Sie wird im August drei Jahre alt (Himmel, wie die Zeit vergeht) und ist ein Europäischer Schlittenhund. Und damit sind wir mitten drin im #zughundesport. Ylvi ist ein Traumerfüller-Hund. Mit Mette und Bounty habe ich den Sport vor vielen Jahren begonnen, aber es war einfach nie so ganz ihrs. So richtig Spaß am Ziehen hatten sie nur in der Gruppe. "Die dicke Mutti allein durch den Wald ziehen? Näää, wir gehen viel lieber spazieren!" Und so wuchs und wuchs und wuchs der Wunsch nach einem Hund, der Bock auf den Sport hat, dem das Ziehen und Laufen in den Genen liegt. Und so kam irgendwann Ylvi zu uns. Als Welpe mit 13 Wochen. Mein erster Welpe. Wie aufregend!

Introduction round! Ylvi is also #newhere with me. She will be three years old in August (heaven, how time flies) and is a European sled dog. And that puts us right in the middle of the #sleddogsports. Ylvi is a dog that fills my dreams. I started the sport with Mette and Bounty many years ago, but it was just never quite their thing. They only really enjoyed pulling when they were in a group. ‘Dragging that chubby mummy through the forest all by ourselves? Nah, we'd much rather go for a walk!’ And so the desire for a dog that was just as keen on the sport as I was, that had pulling and running in its genes, grew and grew. And at so some point Ylvi came to us. As a puppy at 13 weeks old. My first puppy. How exciting!

Vorstellungsrunde! #neuhier ist mit mir auch Mette, meine 10 Jahre alte Mischlingshündin. Ja, okay, sie wird erst im Juni 10. Mette ist als Zweithund zu uns gekommen. Sie stammt - wie auch unsere Bounty - aus dem Tierschutz. Während Bounty aber aus einem deutschen Tierheim ist, kommt Mette aus Italien. Sie war schon bei ihrer Pflegestelle in Deutschland angekommen, es war eine Bekannte von mir, die wusste, dass ich einen zweiten Hund suche. Naja und da kam es eben wie es kommen musste. Mette zog bei uns ein. Und sie ist nicht mehr wegzudenken. Sie ist der absolute Kuschelhund. Eine Katze. Sie liebt die Wärme, tobt aber genauso gern im Schnee. Ach und sie schaut ganz gerne mal als trüge sie alles Leid der Welt auf ihren Schultern. Am liebsten auf Fotos. ;)

Introduction round! Mette, my 10-year-old mixed-breed dog, is also #newhere with me. Yes, okay, she won't be 10 until June. Mette joined us as a second dog. Like Bounty, she comes from an animal shelter. But while Bounty is from a German animal shelter, Mette comes from Italy. She had already arrived at her foster home in Germany, it was a friend of mine who knew that I was looking for a second dog. Well, and then it happened as it had to. Mette moved in with us. And it's hard to imagine life without her. She is the ultimate cuddly dog. A cat. She loves the warmth, but also loves to romp in the snow. Oh, and she likes to look like she's carrying all the world's misery on her shoulders. Preferably in photos ;)

Vorstellungsrunde! #neuhier ist mit mir auch Bounty, meine 14 Jahre alte Mischlingshündin. Sie war mein erster Hund und hat mich Geduld gelehrt. Das macht sie jetzt, wo sie in die Jahre gekommen ist, wieder. Wie langsam kann man spazieren gehen? Wie lange kann man an einer Stelle riechen? Bounty sagt: Ja! :D Aber ich bin dankbar, dass sie noch da ist. Vor wenigen Wochen wurde ihr die Milz entfernt. Es war ein riesiges Hämatom, fast so groß wie ein Fußball und 3 kg schwer. Das hätte jederzeit platzen können. Zum Glück haben wir es rechtzeitig bemerkt. Und so genießen wir jetzt die Zeit, die wir noch haben. Und machen die 15 dieses Jahr voll.

Introduction round! Bounty, my 14 year old mixed breed dog, is also #newhere with me. She was my first dog and taught me patience. Now that she's getting on in years, she's doing it again. How slow can you go for a walk? How long can you smell one spot? Bounty says: Yes! :D But I'm grateful that she's still here. She had her spleen removed a few weeks ago. It was a huge hematoma, almost as big as a soccer ball and weighing 3 kg. It could have burst at any time. Fortunately, we noticed it in time. So now we're enjoying the time we have left. And make it to 15 this year.
