Snow covers a maneki neko and statue of Hotei at Taizo-in.

Taizo-in is famed for its painting of a man trying to catch a catfish with a gourd...and so the temple has many catfish motifs hidden around the precincts.

The old road that connects Myōshin-ji (妙心寺) to Ryōan-ji, one of its many sub-temples, is known as Hō-zaka (法坂 'Dharma Hill').

In times past the path would be lined with monks going to and fro, but nowadays it is filled with visitors come to see Ryōan-ji's famous garden.
