@indivisibleteam This time, link up your protests by two-way live A/V with other protests, not only within the US, but also in other countries where anti-authoritarian #solidarity protests co-occur. Coordinate across global time zones, so there’s always another nation showing their support for the freedom of the People of the US. Meanwhile, link up protests within the US, so everyone sees different faces and hears different accents joining in one message. Counteract divide-and-conquer proactively, and explicitly inoculate against it by calling it what it is.
Everyone should leave the protest with commitments to keep in touch on Signal with at least a few people from other states, other races, other economic sectors, other sides of urban and rural living, and so one. Everyone should also leave with at least one new such contact from another country.
Make it clear: it’s not the US against the world. It’s #freedom and #democracy versus #oligarchy and #fascism.
Oh, and mind your branding across the Internet and especially the A/V link when connecting with solidarity protests in the Commonwealth or other places with figurehead kings. “No kings” is excellent messaging in the US, but maybe substitute “no oligarchs” when talking with people who still have a “king” (even if that king is a human decoration).

Today in Labor History May 4, 1886: A day after police killed four striking workers and injured hundreds, protesters gathered at Haymarket Square in Chicago. As the peaceful event drew to a close, someone threw a bomb into the police line. Police responded by shooting into the crowd, killing one and wounding many. Eight anarchists were later framed even though most were not even present at the Haymarket rally and there was no evidence that linked any of them to the bombing. They tried and convicted eight anarchist leaders in a kangaroo court: August Spies, Albert Parsons, Adolph Fisher, George Engel, Louis Lingg, Michael Schwab, Samuel Felden and Oscar Neebe. Parson’s brother testified at the trial that the real bomb thrower was a Pinkerton agent provocateur. This was entirely consistent with the Pinkertons modus operandi. They used the agent provocateur, James McParland, to entrap and convict the Molly Maguires, 20 innocent Irish union activists, just a few years prior. As a result, twenty of them were hanged and the Pennsylvania mining union was crushed. McParland also tried to entrap WFM leader, Big Bill Haywood, for the murder of Idaho Governor Frank Steunenberg. Steunenberg had crushed the WFM strike in 1899, the same one in which the WFM had blown up a colliery. However, Haywood had Clarence Darrow representing him. And Darrow proved his innocence.
On November 11, 1887, they executed Spies, Parson, Fisher and Engel. They sang the Marseillaise, the revolutionary anthem, as they marched to the gallows. The authorities arrested family members who attempted to see them one last time. This included Parson’s wife, Lucy, who was also a significant anarchist organizer and orator. In 1905, she helped cofound the IWW. Moments before he died, Spies shouted, "The time will come when our silence will be more powerful than the voices you strangle today." And Engel and Fischer called out, "Hurrah for anarchism!" Parsons tried to speak, but was cut off by the trap door opening beneath him.
Workers throughout the world protested the trial, conviction and executions. Prominent people spoke out against it, including Clarence Darrow, Oscar Wilde, George Bernard Shaw, and William Morris. The Haymarket Affair inspired thousands to join the anarchist movement, including Emma Goldman. And it is the inspiration for International Workers’ Day, which is celebrated on May 1st in nearly every country in the world except the U.S.

THE KENT STATE MASSACRE
It is May 4, 1970 - minutes after the Ohio National Guard opened fire on a peaceful antiwar protest at Kent State University. A horrified Mary Ann Vecchio crouches over the body of Jeffrey Miller.
That’s me on the right with a white arm band. I am watching a freaked-out fellow art student jumping in the blood of Jeffrey Miller.
Four were killed and nine wounded, protesting against the invasion of Cambodia. Days later came massacres at Augusta GA and Jackson State MS.
The shootings at Kent were choreographed at the highest levels of government. Inflammatory comments by President Nixon and Governor Rhodes of Ohio provided a framework for the shootings. Actions reeking of the work of agent provocateurs preceded the murders. In the May 4 protest was an armed FBI agent - photographed holding a gun.
For 55 years, there has been a diligent cover up of the events by politicians of both capitalist parties. KSU has attempted to airbrush the mass anti-war movement of thousands of students out of existence.
Official May 4 commemorations were placed in the hands of Stephanie Danes Smith, a former top official of the CIA - testimony to the moral bankruptcy of the KSU admin. Former “radicals” of SDS, having carved out careers as “experts” and “survivors,” have embraced Smith - a sad testimony to failed ultra-left/liberal politics.
Now, Trump officials are again making inflammatory statements and threatening students with the National Guard. Like Nixon, they believe that deporting, jailing or killing some students will put an end to the anti-war protests. They are doomed to failure.
Those of us who went through the experience of building the Vietnam antiwar movement learned this: when millions of people join in direct action in the streets, we have enormous power.
The most important way to prevent state violence is to build a mass, independent defense of civil liberties.
Together with the Vietnamese people, we defeated the war makers in Southeast Asia.
We can and must do it again.
Stop the assaults on democratic rights!
End the genocide in Gaza!
