Harris’ campaign said she was backed by the mayors of #Bisbee, #Nogales, #Somerton, and #San #Luis, as well as by #Yuma #County Supervisors Martin Porchas and Tony Reyes.
Republicans are trying to make the border a political liability for Harris just as it was for President Joe Biden before he ended his reelection campaign.
Republicans say Harris did not do enough to clamp down on illegal immigration in a role they falsely characterize as Biden’s “border czar.”
House Republicans and a handful of vulnerable Democrats voted last week to rebuke Harris over the administration’s border policies.

Nearly finished my #book so here's a woman I couldn't squeeze in.
Frances Lady Smith spent much of her life helping poor people in #Somerton through various charities. When she died in 1895, a fund was set up to build an educational institute in her memory.
The building was started in 1901 and opened in 1902. The proposed Reading Room didn't happen & the building was leased by its Trustees to the parish church.
The parish rooms (aka Lady Smith Memorial Institute) are still standing.
Looking at these byelection results, it seems to me that the 'swing' is down to Tory-right-or-wrong voters staying at home. They're still there, folks, grinding their teeth over the Daily Mail at the breakfast table.
What stands out for me is the more than 10% Green vote in Somerton and Frome, with zero campaigning, and a tacit endorsement of tactical voting for the LibDems.
