Finally saw 2001: A Space Odyssey
Here’s my synopsis:

Part 1: Ape men shouting. so much shouting

Part 2: the part everyone remembers with iconic space travel shots and HAL, which could’ve been a kick-ass movie

Part 3: Let’s experience what it’s like to do LSD, probably! Woohooo!

My review: a whole HOUR could’ve been edited out of this movie for PACING reasons, and nothing would’ve been lost.

I've always liked this film and I did see it before ever seeing 2001, which was equally impressive, but I have to admit, I always fast forward through certain scenes, such as the beginning.

2010 is more straight forward, and mostly follows the plot of the book.

The technology used in 2010 is somewhat dated, especially when you see renderings on computer screens. I rewatched last night and even noticed a glow around the ship in certain scenes, that I may have overlooked before, which is basically two effect shots put together. Other sequences are more effective, such as when the astronauts transfer to the Discovery or the ship areobreaking around Jupiter.

There are four books in the series. Two of which have never made it to film. It would be interesting if anyone ever told the stories as a series on streaming somewhere.
