Exploring a stalactite cave. Looking from the pitch dark into a brightly lit rhomboid shaped recess where countless tiny yellow stone cones hang from the ceiling and flow down along the walls, looking like frozen dripping of a dense fluid.

It was cold during the dog walk, I spotted some stalactites over the river and I managed to take a nice photo :)

Growing stalactites, Grotta del Vento, Apuan Alps Park. Absolutely spectacular caves to visit. The road there is spectacular too - and slightly hair raising! It is set within the Upper Triassic Grezzoni Formation.

Stalactites in Tytyri limestone mine in Lohja, Finland. The mine has been in operation over hundred years and it should continue to be so until the 22nd century. There is a museum located 100 meters from the surface. The mining is going on in the depth of 370 meters. Sometimes you can hear the eerie rumbling sounds of the machines echoing through the tunnels. Other than that, the silence is surreal. You can feel that your are somewhere deep.
