The tulip is a perennial, bulbous plant with showy flowers in the genus Tulipa, of which up to 109 species have been described and which belongs to the family Liliaceae. The genus's native range extends from as far west as Southern Europe, Anatolia (Turkey), Israel, Palestine, North Africa, and Iran to the Northwest of China. [Wikipedia] Poppies are herbaceous annual, biennial or short-lived perennial plants. Some species are monocarpic, dying after flowering. Poppies can be over a metre tall with flowers up to 15 centimetres across. Flowers of species (not cultivars) have 4 or 6 petals, many stamens forming a conspicuous whorl in the center of the flower and an ovary of from 2 to many fused carpels. The petals are crumpled in the bud and as blooming finishes, the petals often lie flat before falling away. In the temperate zones, poppies bloom from spring into early summer. Most species secrete latex when injured. Bees use poppies as a pollen source. The pollen of the oriental poppy, Papaver orientale, is dark blue, that of the field or corn poppy (Papaver rhoeas) is grey to dark green. The opium poppy, Papaver somniferum, grows wild in eastern and southern Asia, and South Eastern Europe. It is believed that it originated in the Mediterranean region. A poppy is a flowering plant in the subfamily Papaveroideae of the family Papaveraceae. Poppies are herbaceous plants, often grown for their colourful flowers.

Oriental lilies are known for their fragrant perfume, blooming mid-to-late summer. Stargazers are easy to grow and do best in full sunlight. They have a fast growth rate and should be planted in full sun in well drained loamy or sandy soil. When mature, Stargazers can grow to a height of 36 inches with a spread of 12 to 16 inches with 4 to 5 flowers per stem. The Stargazer lily was created in 1974 by Leslie Woodriff, a lily breeder in California. Woodriff called the new cross 'Stargazer', because the blooms faced towards the sky. The ASPCA reports this plant as being toxic to cats. They are said to cause vomiting, inappetence, lethargy, kidney failure, and even death. Cats are the only species known to be affected. I captured this photo of these vibrant Clivias in my garden in the north of Sydney, NSW, Australia. A cluster of vibrant orange Clivia flowers with trumpet-shaped blooms, each featuring yellow stamens at the center. The flowers are surrounded by long, broad, green leaves with a textured surface. They are herbaceous or evergreen perennial plants. [Courtesy Wikipedia] Clivia is a genus of monocot flowering plants native to southern Africa. They are from the family Amaryllidaceae, subfamily Amaryllidoideae. Common names are Natal lily or bush lily. Individual flowers occur in umbels on a stalk above the foliage; colors typically range from yellow through orange to red. Many cultivars exist, some with variegated leaf patterns.

A photography I captured at the local hairdressers! It just said photograph me! A bright orange yellow gerbera daisy close up macro on a blue background. It was named in honour of German botanist and medical doctor Traugott Gerber (1710-1743) who traveled extensively in Russia and was a friend of Carl Linnaeus. Gerbera is native to tropical regions of South America, Africa and Asia. The first scientific description of a Gerbera was made by J.D. Hooker in Curtis's Botanical Magazine in 1889 when he described Gerbera jamesonii, a South African species also known as Transvaal daisy or Barberton Daisy. Gerbera is also commonly known as the African Daisy. Gerbera species bear a large capitulum with striking, two-lipped ray florets in yellow, orange, white, pink or red colours. The capitulum, which has the appearance of a single flower, is actually composed of hundreds of individual flowers. The morphology of the flowers varies depending on their position in the capitulum. The flower heads can be as small as 7 cm (Gerbera mini 'Harley') in diameter or up to 12 cm (Gerbera 'Golden Serena').

Yesterday's specimen, in the same position, but changing the objective lens to 10X, which supposedly yields a total of 400X magnification. I just hope these calculations are correct, but this is how I was told about how to calculate it 👀
The image here is focus-stacked using about 37 images, but it was still a hard issue to include everything in the image in sharp focus. Yet, I used lot of sharpening here (and cleaning) to get it to so-so level.

Same specimen, and back to 4X objective magnification, but this time I tried focus-stacking (previously, I didn't focus stack at this level). Focus-stacking is somewhat easier in this level of magnification, but harder and more delicate at 10X. Total magnification here should be somewhere around 160X.

I spent a happy few hours taking macro shots of a bouquet. These are all focus-stacked by hand as I am too mcuh of a cheapskate to get a modern Olympus macro which would let the camera do it for me. This week's snaps were all taken with a #fourthirds lens - either the Olympus 50mm f2 or a Sigma 105mm f2.8.
