Pierre de Fécondité (Camlez): A 1.5m tall stele near Chapelle Saint Nicolas, Bretagne. Traditionally women would rub their belly against the stone in the hope of becoming pregnant, and it could reputedly cure young children with disabilities. #StandingStoneSunday #Bretagne #stele #IronAge #fertility #standingstone #Brittany #France 📷 peulven More: megalithic.co.uk/article.php?s

Something a bit different - using 3D Gaussian Splats for creating art.

This started out as a Pictish standing stone up around Loch Kinord, Aberdeenshire. I took a video walking around it. Made a Gaussian Splat at some length. Found an interesting view where the splat artefacts look like a view through the surrounding tree foliage. Finished the tone processing in Luminar Neo.

The Gogar Stone at Easter Norton Farm, just outside the west of Edinburgh. Hidden from view beyond the stone in the first image lies Edinburgh airport.

The stone is quite small, probably no more than about 3 feet high and about 18" across at its widest point.

📷 by me, 22 September 2025.

A relatively small standing stone in a ploughed field, with only the yellowing stubble of the crop remaining. The stone is angular and around 3 feet high. Behind the stone is the far off horizon with a line of trees, and a sky almost completely devoid of clouds.A relatively small standing stone in a ploughed field, with only the yellowing stubble of the crop remaining. On a rather wet group walk this morning we passed this carved stone, a "recent monument". I didn't even know it existed.

A stone column in a field of wet green grass. The column has carvings of fish around it. The artist has captured a feeling of movement.

Returning to Islay: A Search for a Childhood Memory at a Standing Stone

The author embarks on a journey to rediscover a childhood memory on the Scottish island of Islay. A photo from their youth, taken while sitting on a standing stone, was given to them by their mother years later. Despite having no clear recollection of the moment, the photograph intrigued them with i... [More info]

For here is the Menhir of Alto da Cruz, a cup-mark festooned (about 50 cupules!) in Portugal's Alentejo region. Does this stone show a link between prehistory and Roman times? Find out more (and visit its cruciform neighbours): youtube.com/watch?v=Mo9w_q-5u8g

If I receive the answer "I don't mind" to the question "what would everybody like to do today?", there is a strong likelihood we'll end up at a stone circle or holy well. Be warned.

I'm not sure anyone was as keen as I was to see Merrivale, yesterday. 😂

The image depicts a grassy field under a cloudy sky. In the foreground, there is a large, flat stone with a tuft of grass growing from it. The stone is positioned on the left side of the image. In the background, towards the center-right, stands a tall, slender stone monument, which appears to be an ancient standing stone. I didn't know #StandingStoneSunday was a thing, but since it's Sunday and I saw some standing stones today, it's perfect timing !

I was walking up to Leith Hill (Surrey, UK) when I saw a field with (at least) 3 large standing stones. The field was private so I couldn't walk up to the stones themselves.

I have no idea when these stones date from - if anyone has any ideas, let me know I'm curious !

Three large standing stones in a field in front of a small group of houses (probably a farm). There's some barbed wire preventing access to the field.

Photo of a number of linocut prints in black ink hanging from a rail. Centrally one print is fully visible. The printed image shows a massive standing stone decorated with circular rock art before a turbulent sky of clouds and force lines. At the foot of the stone is grass and a single foxglove. At the base of the print are the words 'count the stones as 'round you walk listen to Meg and she will talk' in a script-style typeface reminiscent of the gothic work of William Morris. The paper is lightly toned with irregular deckled edges' and is not fully rectangular. At the top of the photo can be seen the peg used to suspend the image on the rail.
