For Day 11 of the #StarTrek31DayChallenge, the topic is Favorite Prodigy Episode.
My pick is "The Last Flight of the Protostar, Parts I and II" (E211 and E212).
Chakotay's story is so heartbreaking. He's been stranded on Ysida for the last 10 years, having lost his Protostar crew. But finally he gets a little company in the form of our heroes.
They trying to inspire Chakoty with some Prodigy theme music playing.....it's a good thing. Something as little as re-hanging the USS Prostar dedication plaque can bring hope where there is none.
Chakotay talking about his First Officer and friend Adreek at the end of Part I...."He knew before this ship could fly, first it has to sail".
Watching them all work together to turn the Protostar into the HMS Protostar and get her to sail away onto the vapor ocean is quite the undertalking.
There is a great emotional scene with Dal and Chakotay after Dal's incident with the jib that almost resulted in them crashing.
Chakotay gives Dal some wise thoughts....
"I wasn't a Captain, but we shared something greater, a cause I believed in"
"Point is, maybe you'll be Captain, maybe not, but whenever you're feeling lost, it's best to find where you're needed most"
These two episodes carry a lot of emotional weight and show how the character depth really contributes a lot to the series.
