#Valve announced new gaming hardware (the #SteamMachine) that is honestly exciting.
Playing AAA games on #Linux #SteamOS on hardware that is six times as strong as the already awesome #SteamDeck, without any of the corporate shenanigans of other companies; with the hope of never having to use Windows again, right in time as Microsoft forces the incompatible #Windows11 down your throat and fucks up everything with AI.
I honestly get the excitement.
But nobody even knows yet what this thing will cost and nevertheless people are already swearing they are going to buy this thing.
And not too long ago, when the #Nintendo Switch 2 was released, people were equally excited about the release, ready to throw $500 at a company to update their existing Switch 1.
If you're also excited about this announcement, let me remind those people who are already drooling over the thought of purchasing yet another console/PC:
There is still a #genocide going on in #Gaza #Palestine.
People are being killed by the tens or hundreds of thousands. Now that winter is near, Israeli soldiers don't even have to shoot a bullet or drop a bomb. The cold and rainfloods will end Palestinian lifes for them.
I follow many Palestinians and they all face the same problem: they cannot afford food and other basic necessities whose prices have skyrocketed due to wartime profiteering. There are a couple of funding campaigns, but the current donations don't suffice.
I see many people claiming they cannot spare more than $5 or $10 which is hardly enough to buy them one can of processed food. It's not even enough for one meal for one person, let alone an entire family.
I also see many people drooling again over the latest gaming technology.
How about you sit out this round if you already upgraded from the Switch 1 to the Switch 2, or already own a PS5 or Xbox? How about you stand by genocide victims, instead of prioritizing your gaming pleasure over human lives?
I cannot respect that hypocrisy: working a well-paid job as a software engineer, making a very decent salary, participating in every single hype cycle, buying yet another device of which you already own one too many, and then not caring about the ongoing genocide or its victims at all.
