Absolutely divinely inspired song. Just brilliant in its fragility and composition. It feels like it could fall apart in a second. Damn sad they couldn’t work it out & release more stuff.

I visited my second Steve Jansen photographic exhibition in one week at the weekend. The Space Between exhibition had a dedicated soundtrack which you could buy as a postcard with a download code.

Jansen/Barbieri/Karn - Playing in a Room with People

2001 live recording, released on LP for RSD 2020 in the UK.

3/4 of Japan/Rain Tree Crow, with Steven Wilson playing the (guitar) part of David Sylvian.

Worth seeking out if any of that sounds interesting…

Jansen/Barbieri/Karn - Playing in a Room with People LP cover.

Three vertical strips with black and white photos of the three primaries, in that order. Title at the top, and the whole thing overlaid with semi-transparent gold letters with the participant names.

The gold LP plays on a vintage, restored Beogram 8002 linear-tracking turntable to the right.

Nine Horses - Snow Borne Sorrow

This Sylvian/Jansen/Friedman joint lasted for one LP and one EP in 2005, and was the last “accessible” record Sylvian made (the influence of his brother Steve Jansen is clearly felt).

These are very interesting tracks in general, woven through with natural and synthetic textures, and Sylvian’s voice carrying through all.

Nine Horses - Snow Borne Sorrow LP cover.

A shadow of *something* on a white background.

The white LP plays on a Rega NAIA turntable to the left.

REMINDER: the latest article looks at Japan's 'Nightporter', an atmospheric and innovative ballad from their album Gentlemen Take Polaroids. The single release in 1982 was immaculately packaged. It's music that evokes strong memories for me.
