Stumbled across my notes from 1 Nov. 2021 where Steve McQueen interviewed Tarana Burke after her book "Unbound" came out. Nesrine Malik hosted this Guardian Live event.
"Your love is blinding", said McQueen to Burke.
"Black people deserve beautiful sentences." Burke's reply to McQueen's comment on her beautiful writing.
"She corrected my feelings." "The audacity to correct others' feelings." Comments from Burke about a part of her book that touched McQueen.
"How can white people do better (than asking that question) is a kind of appropriation instead of caring about black pain." Comment from Burke during the interview.
Burke quoted someone whose name I didn't catch (Miriam or Murian X?): "Hope is a muscle".
This interview was SO BEAUTIFUL!
PS:
#TaranaBurke started the #MeToo movement.)
#SteveMcQueen made the "Small Axe" mini-series on London's West Indian community between 1969-1982. Gorgeous & powerful series. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3464896/
