Haddon Hall rises from the rolling countryside near Bakewell, a striking example of #HistoricArchitecture with its weathered stone walls and ivy-clad façade. The #MedievalCastle elements are evident in its battlements, arched doorway, and mullioned windows that overlook the tranquil grounds. Visitors often explore its preserved #StoneBuilding interiors and stroll the courtyards, soaking in the charm of England’s Peak District. A favorite for #TravelPhotography, the hall offers sweeping #CountrysideViews and a journey into centuries of history.

A photograph of the ruins of Llanthony Abbey published in 1905 using a proprietary photogravure process from the Rembrandt Intaglio Printing Co.
The abbey ws built around 1200CE by Augustinian monks, and closed at the Dissolution by King Henry VIII; it was abandoned, and eventually used as a farm.

This is a mystery, and someone may know. This is a stone walled outhouse from over 100 years ago. That wall has a neat (or at least “deliberate”) rectangular hole. Behind the hole are two air bricks. But the whole lot is under ground, it is soil behind this bricks. But a large chunk of wood was poked in to that hole, bolted to another bit and going diagonally to the adjacent wall, just resting there. I am at a total loss as to what it could ever have been or why.#oldbuilding #stonebuilding
In this season of giving, we'd like to remember the donors who supported the East Lexington Branch Library at the Stone Building: Caira Robbins, Benjamin Wellington, Paulina Burbank Pierce, and Nelson W. Jenney.
Caira Robbins was Ellen Stone's great aunt. Read more about Caira - who had strong opinions - in "The Robbins Family of East Lexington, Massachusetts: Furriers and Their Clothing, 1775-1825"
