A 3D anamorphic street-art illusion by Braga Last1 (Tom Bragado Blanco) painted onto an old gas tank. The mural depicts a life-sized sphynx cat crouching low, its muscular body merging with a painted grassy field that extends around the tank. The cat’s skin is depicted in subtle tones of grey and beige, its contours shaded to appear three-dimensional.
The illusion is so convincing that from certain angles the cat seems to emerge from the tank itself. Surrounding grasses and weeds are painted around the base, blending real and painted elements seamlessly. The gas tank’s cylindrical shape is cleverly used to distort perspective, making the cat appear naturally integrated, as if it truly sits in that environment. The artwork exemplifies Braga Last1’s mastery of trompe-l’œil and his ability to transform mundane structures into visual paradoxes.

Cosimo 'Cheone' Caiffa & Mor Pavone turned a tunnel wall in Nerviano, Italy, into a stage for illusion: a giant figure pushing its way out of concrete. Interactive 3D street art at its best.

A 3D street art mural by Italian artist Cosimo 'Cheone' Caiffa, created with Mor Pavone in Nerviano, Italy. The painting shows a giant hyper-realistic figure forcing its way out of a tunnel wall, hands braced against the concrete as if it might break through. A person in the foreground becomes part of the illusion, making the mural feel interactive. Cheone is known for this playful style — blending walls and surroundings into works that seem to escape the surface and enter our world.

Open Book Fountain

This sculpture was created by Kelecsenyi Gergely & engineer Jozsef Szita.
The fountain uses water to create the illusion of turning pages, and serves as a reminder of the importance of physical books.

Location: Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, Hungary. On Egyetem Square, in front of the university.

British sculptor Alex Chinneck has ‘unzipped’ the façade of this building in Milan, Italy.

The interior spaces are radically transformed through unexpected ‘openings’ in the cement pavement and stone walls.

A building with partially terracotta-colored stucco looks as if it has been unzipped, with a large white stone zipper on the right-hand side. The façade curves downwards towards the white stone base of the building. A woman in a long white dress, holding a bicycle, looks up at the elaborate structure.

British sculptor Alex Chinneck, known for inverting electricity pylons and tying grandfather clocks in knots, has ‘unzipped’ the façade of a building in Milan as part of the city’s design week festivities.
To create the dramatic effect, Chinneck created a totally new elevation in the style of traditional Milanese architecture, which appears to open up to reveal the building’s interior. The interior spaces, on the other hand, are radically transformed through unexpected ‘openings’ in the cement pavement and stone walls.

A wall has been ‘zipped open’ in the middle, revealing a large, apparently artificially lit ‘window’. Through the zipper, we can also see light shining through.
A woman in a long white dress looks up at the zipper. She is standing on a gray concrete floor.

Fresco of the Canuts, Lyon, France

This mural was created by the municipality. It extends over a 12,916 sq ft blind façade, and is the largest in Europe.

It represents the district of the 'Canuts', the silk weavers of the 19th century.

A painted wall on 1200 m², this trompe-l'oeil represents the atmosphere and life of the district, typical of the Croix-Rousse plateau, its houses, its staircases and its inhabitants.

Created by the Cité de la Création in 1987, this painted wall, which extends over a 1200 m² blind façade, is the largest in Europe. Updated for the first time in 1997, it regularly takes into account the transformations of the district. The inhabitants depicted on this façade are also aged. For example, a young man carrying his bicycle was depicted as a young father in 1997, with his little daughter. Renovated and updated in 2013, it shows a lively district, between history and modernity.
This evolving painted wall represents the Croix-Rousse district, the district of the "Canuts", workers working with silk in the 19th century. There are the typical buildings of the district with their high windows and 4m high ceilings intended to accommodate the looms. Several nods to Lyon's culture are also present, such as a small Guignol theater or the Vélo'v, Lyon's self-service bicycles.
A central staircase leads up the hill between the tall buildings of the district and gives the whole a striking impression of depth.

Address
Corner of bd des Canuts and rue Denfert Rochereau - 69004 Lyon 4th

Mural by Cosimo Cheone Caiffa, at Porta Romana 113 in Milano, Italy.

Trompe-l’œil street art: windows and balconies seem to twist and ripple right off the wall. This facade makes passersby do a double take.

Mural by Cosimo Cheone Caiffa, Porta Romana 113, Milan, Italy.
The large, flat facade of a residential building is transformed into an astonishing three-dimensional illusion: the painted windows, balconies, and architectural details appear warped and rippling, as though the building’s entire face is melting or undulating. The trompe-l’œil style is so hyper-realistic that the fake windows and balconies seem to protrude or recede. Painted greenery in window boxes completes the illusion. The real building, pale yellow under a clear sky, stands sandwiched between conventional, undisturbed apartment blocks. The mural visually tricks the viewer into questioning what’s real and what’s painted.
