Anyone tried #Strawbale #gardening? I've seen a lot of conflicting advice on it (which I suspect may be due to the differing treatments applied to the straw before it was baled...but I'd imagine it would be really difficult to grow plants in a bale made of straw that had been treated with a persistent herbicide).

Just looking to gather a bit more anecdotal data, really. Any input is appreciated!

Explainer: this is an extreme renovation because they can. You can also see this as an opportunity for massive CARBON STORAGE. These are huge and very tight bales , 70cm. The typical #strawbale is 36cm over here and this is usually plenty good enough to meet #passivehouse insulation for retrofits.

I was checking my #LoRaWAN sensors and accidentally clicked on one I was sure I had given to someone for testing. It was sending frames to *my* gateway. It reports air humidity, and temperature from two sensors – external and internal. I had no idea where it was. The temperatures were too low for outside, and too high for the new house under construction, where I already keep much of my stuff (#StrawBale makes great insulation). It had to be in our tiny house. I checked various boxes strewn around. Nothing. Then I looked at the simple small digital thermometer on the bookshelf near my desk. And there it was. Much larger than the small thermometer. Because of the external probe it looks a bit like some power supply. I've been looking at it for weeks and it never registered.

The pumpkin straw bale experiment; the pumpkins are alive but just really...not growing? they initially flowered but haven't produced. I am thinking it's time to start pouring compost tea on them. Maybe add my normal coffee grounds/banana peels/eggshells to the strawbale around the plants. #gardening #strawbale
