I refreshed Surge Storm.

This weekend I was determined to break the creative drought, so I revisted a piece of music that I made in 2022, taking away the limitation of only using one software synth.

If you're into music theory, it has a few 'moments' ;)

I used Surge XT synth, BBC Symphony Orchestra Discover (free) and Arturia Piano V (bundled with my keyboard).

@lislegaard

I use #Ardour for producing all my tracks, #Carla for testing and experimenting with plugins, #SurgeXT & #NoiseMaker as synths, various stuff by brummer10 (#guitarix, ratatouille, ...) and #NAM and #Aida for guitars, #LSP plugins for IRs and samplers etc. #x42plugins for EQ and MIDI processing, #Cardinal for sound design & a lot more #FLOSS tools and plugins.

Expanding the scope of the question, I use #FAUST and #DPF for writing my own plugins and use them in a lot of my tracks.

I improved my virtual piano.

Edit: I accidentally rendered this at only 16 polyphony. It should sound more fluid than this.

I returned to 'my grand piano', a synth patch, as I do every year-ish, to try to improve its design.

I figured out how to do sympathetic resonance, which is where strings can virbate others, giving a fuller sound. Lots of other improvements, and I'll never be totally happy with it!

I have a standard test score that I run through it, tweaking as it plays.

Here's a relatively quiet bit of Moonlight Sonata.

[I'll likely delete this soon]

It's Cubase time. Steinberg Cubase 5 to be exact. Yes, version 5!

Surge XT for the synths, which I plan on using more often. Beats from LoopMash.

#linnstrument #surgext guqin practice this morning. not quite the real thing but it makes me happy. this is a bit of a classic tune "Wine Mad"

Installed Linux MX on my 12 yo Lenovo Z500. After some tweaking, it records and playbacks just perfectly, at 96kHz and a still acceptable 8ms latency (4ms, if I would play 'normally').
My typical stress test (running ridiculously fast arpeggiators and changing params in real time) turned out so much fun, that it'll become my new project!
Thanks @mxlinux , , for making it possible!

[Edit: lightly updated - and I'm not going to work on this again for a while]

Another push. Some better sounds, arrangement, and production, plus new bits. The bit after this clip will get interesting (with the fade-out), and then I'm done. Not long now.

This evening's quick noodle: I murdered Take On Me (instrumental, first few sections).

I found publically available MIDIs to be poor, so I started from nothing.

It's not mixed properly, as I'm just getting the sound design and notes down. I hear lots of other instruments and parts in the remainder of the original, so that'll be fun if I carry on with this one.
