Im Mai 2025 blieb die #Arktis-#Meereisausdehnung trotz saisonalem Rückgang durchgehend unter dem Mittelwert von 1991–2020.

Mit 11,8 Mio. km² am Monatsende lag sie leicht unter dem Vorjahreswert und war die fünftniedrigste Ausdehnung für diesen Tag.

Besonders deutlich fehlte Eis zwischen #Svalbard und Franz-Josef-Land sowie in Barents-, Kara- und Laptewsee.

Auch die #Antarktis verzeichnete mit 9,6 Mio. km² ein etwa 9 % kleineres Eisgebiet als im Mittel.
