@Zenie @joao_et_al
My opinion is that it's way better to start learning from sane defaults. Also, a wizard can easily show you what you can change and how.

I've used #Emacs for years through #Spacemacs framework and I still like it. Slowly I learn more and more about Elisp and other things when using it. I don't think it would be a bad thing if someone offered a wizard that creates a similar experience as one gets when following the guidance of #SystemCrafters

I knew I wasn't taking advantage of the power of multi-path undo possibilities in Emacs but it never clicked with me, until I found vundo thanks to @sacha's recent post.

This package visualizes the undo history as nodes that you can traverse and diff in a very familiar git branch paradigm. Quick post: https://shom.dev/posts/20250622_undo-finally-clicked-with-vundo/

#Emacs #SystemCrafters

Emacs screenshot showing a configuration snippet of vundo and the vundo window at the bottom. The vundo window shows a lot of nodes and branching paths. One of the branched nodes has a blue x and that is being compared with the cursor positioin, the output of the diff is shown in its own pane.

πŸ”΄ Today on #SystemCrafters Live, we'll start building a web-based MUD (multi-user dungeon) using Guile Scheme and Spritely Goblins!

We've laid the ground work on the most recent Crafter Hours stream, so this stream will be where we really start working on the game logic and try to build a fun game from scratch.

Ogni tanto lo ricondivido! SystemCrafters merita

The Absolute Beginner's Guide to Emacs

This video is intended for people who have used other code editors or IDEs before and are curious to try out Emacs! The goal is to teach you everything you need to know to get started with Emacs and use it for basic editing tasks. Once you get comfortable with the basics, check out the other Emacs video series that I've created to learn a whole lot more!

πŸ”΄ Today on #SystemCrafters Live, we'll experiment with Spritely Goblins, a Guile Scheme library that provides a distributed programming model for writing secure, asynchronous code that can be called either locally or across a network.

Let's try it out to see if it might be a good fit for the Spring Lisp Game Jam next week!

πŸ”΄ Today on #SystemCrafters Live, we'll take a look at the `org-transclusion` package and investigate the ways that it can be used to dynamically assemble Org Mode files from other text, source, and Org files that you have on your system.

Writing a book? Writing a literate Emacs config? This package might be useful!

@mretka

What I like about #Archlinux is that it offers a minimal base system with very few userspace assumptions, so it's heavily customizable far as WM/DE and other choices are concerned. It's also fairly simple, and having everything at your fingertips with the AUR is nice.

You could go full #systemcrafters and go guix, sounds like it can be a pain though.

Speaking of systemcrafters, we miss you out on IRC!

Last year I started a webring like it was 1999 with the System Crafters community. And for its first anniversary I wrote a blog post about How I accidentally got better at self-hosting and FOSS contributing.

Sometimes you don’t have to wait for someone else, you can be a catalyst. Happy Birthday Craftering!

Thanks to @daviwil for fostering a great community and to @kern for building Ringfairy and being so encouraging.

I'm going to give a talk on how wonderful is #emacs in crafting your own tooling for an audience that probably does not even know about emacs. In part I'm inspired by the great #systemcrafters and the crafting spirit. (Thanks @daviwil !)

I have several ideas on how #emacs can empower you to create your own tools, but It would be great if you can give me some ideas to share the joy of emacs.

Yes! My #emacs init file is finally my own. Brought over the last few modules from the crafted-emacs config over to my own setup. Feels so good to have a complete overview over everything emacs in one location :-) Extremely grateful to the #systemcrafters community and @daviwil for making the emacs transition so much easier for me, especially on the focus on creating a config that is _supposed_ to be superseded by a personal config when you get more experienced...

πŸ”΄ Today on #SystemCrafters Live, we'll take a look at `jj` (Jujutsu), an interesting distributed version control system that intends to be more user-friendly than Git while having even more advanced features.

Can `jj` be a good replacement for Git in the long term? Let's find out!

Unfortunately tonight's #SystemCrafters stream won't take place because I came down with some kind of virus overnight.

We'll be back next week with another Crafter Hours stream on Monday/Wednesday and the usual stream on Friday!

In the meantime, check out the video I just posted about using the `match` expression in Guile Scheme!

πŸ”΄ Today on #SystemCrafters Live, we'll take a look at Gubar, a program that powers the status bar in Sway using the power of Guile Scheme!

This is a community project so we'll take some time trying it out, looking at the code, and discussing the plans for future development.

πŸ”΄ Today on #SystemCrafters Live, we'll discuss my conclusions after using Emacs in a terminal emulator as my primary working environment for the last few months.

We'll also spend some time hacking on my new configuration to make it work well again in graphical Emacs.

My test bed X270 now has a working #guix system installed. I am still wrestling with the config files for sway, but making good progress. Thanks @daviwil for the guidance through #systemcrafters
