#solved #endeavouros #gnome48 #Lenovo #t470 #gdm No users shown on the login screen.
There was libgdm-plymouth conflicting with libgdm
removed libgdm-plymouth (43.0-1)
installed libgdm (48.0-1)
After #endeavouros upgrading to #gnome48 on #Lenovo #t470 There are no users shown in #gdm. Had to disable gdm service starting #genome via startx. Tried reinstalling gdm, reset gdm conf to default, checked accounts service. Everything seems to be ok. No suspicious messages in journalctl related to gdm except this one. Not sure, if this is the root cause 1/3
The fastest CPU I've used Gentoo on is a the dual core, four thread i5 that is in my good old and trusty Lenovo #T470
For #lenovo #thinkpad #t480 #t480s #t490 #t490s #t440 #t470 etc. #tseries under #nixOS does a/the #LTE #cellular #modem (e.g. #Fibocom #L830-EB #4G LTE #WWAN Modem) work without special measures i.e. does it "appear" in the GUI OS e.g. #gnome & become available for use automatically on installation or update of nixOS e.g. by running update of configuration in usual way? Are there special options in configuration.nix one has to set first? Even then, does it work? Anyone have LTE success here?
I bought this #Lenovo #T480 a while back, it has 2 batteries, one internal, one external. The internal is drained first and when it is pretty empty (~5%), the box just shuts off. I can turn it right back on and the internal battery shows 0%, but it's running happily on the external then. I kinda expect this to be a seamless process, but I'm unsure if it is a hardware issue or a #FreeBSD issue. Haven't seen this on my #T470.
I am moving all my day job stuff from my newer 16-core laptop to my trusty old #Lenovo #Thinkpad #T470. I want to do more bleeding-edge stuff on my newer gaming laptop in #Linux but I still need a stable base to work on in my day job.
Not doing #AdventOfCode but more of a #PushYourself type of challenge this #December
Thinking about going back to my roots in #Gentoo on the gaming laptop, since that was the first daily driver Linux I had back in the early 2000s
So I just ordered two #ThinkPad #T470. One for myself for #pentesting and one for my #sibling for general purpose stuff. I love old #enterprise hardware.
@xenotrope @ademalsasa I'm running #endeavouros and #Ubuntu , each on separate SSD, on #T470. Using it daily and no significant issue occurred. Happy with it.
@uncapybarable
I've been using #endeavouros for 8 months now on the #Lenovo #T470. It's my daily driver for home usage and even gaming. So far, so good, except fingerprint reader. But I was aware of this before installation. #endeavouros is a very good choice for rolling distro based on #archlinux with implemented installer, tweaks and helpers. But still relays on the console for sys maintenance. Of course #archwiki is still your best friend, if needed. #archwiki one of the best #Linux wikis.
Playing with #Hyprland on this newly installed #ArchLinux I've set up on my old #T470 and dear whatever you believe in! It's amazing!
Right now I'm just running the bare, stock config but it still looks sooooo nice and the computer seems to have gained more power for some reason =D
Looking forward to how this will evolve =D
I've been running #Fedora on my trusty old #T470 #Thinkpad for quite some time now, but it seemed not as snappy as it used to be. So before I do a complete clean install again I wanted to test out the latest #Ubuntu release since I've heard good things about it being somewhat better with IO, latency and such things. It seems that this is true. At least it feels way more responsive than what I have seen Ubuntu do on this laptop prior.
