@ami_angelwings @vkc I mean, the #tangara looks fucking awesome…
So is there a secret shop to buy a #tangara somewhere or what? :blob_cat_peek_owo:
I think I may need to give up on my #Tangara for a few months until the firmware improves somewhat. It's awesome when it works, but it just has a few too many inconsistencies and quirks to be enjoyable right now. It'll start and stop playing on its own, start stuttering randomly when it decides to perform a database update, and the UI skips around so much that I often find myself at the root menu every time I want to swap artists or albums. If nothing else, it seems to need a lot of performance tweaking.
I have absolutely no doubt that this thing has the potential to be an amazing audio experience. I just think it needs a bit more time to bake on the firmware side. I'm going to swap to using my phone with Finamp for the time being. I'll check in on the Tangara again once firmware 2.0 is out, which seems like it could be relatively soon.
idk is there's like a timeline for when the #tangara will be available to buy, like "will it be available in 2026?"
kinda considering just buying a cheap (& simple) player in the meantime cuz the hardware files are wayy to intimidating and idk how to use them to make my own
@jzb In no particular order in the last year from what I remember:
- Elementary OS has stood out and strongly iterated #NoAI slop with their contributor policy
- UZDoom devs showed words aren't just words and forked from GZDoom after the lead GZDoom dev committed untested AI slop
- Cosmic DE entered beta
- Pop!_OS started using Weblate, a modern localization toolkit that doesn't involve emailing patches
- GoToSoical, an individual size targeted fediverse platform, entered beta
- #Tangara, an open hardware and software iPod shipped all their CrowdSupply orders
- GameBub, an open source retro emulator running on a FPGA was fully funded and then some
- OpenWRT Two announced
- Turris Omnia NG announced and shipped
- ZMK Studio, the successor to GMK firmware for mechanical keyboards was released
- Flathub got a dedicated section for apps friendly to Linux Mobile
- postmarketOS got systemd support, and has made significant strides to getting immutable support
- Linux 101 workshops popping up as Win10 goes End Of Life
- Ongoing adoption and improvements to Ghost, Jellyfin, and Linux gaming
@eri @vkc and yes, that #Tangara is basically a new #iPodClassic but better as it has no parts from #Apple!
@eri Depends...
Floola existed in the past.
Nowadays I use kid3 to get them tagged & named and storage isn't an issue so I only have one, highest-quality format.
Maybe I’m a simple man, but I’m having the time of my life with the #tangara. Even though I don’t have my commute right now, it’s still a part of my daily rotation, especially when I’m just going for a trot in the afternoon
@alcinnz on a more offline note, podcasts (and music) would be great, as other people have said! In fact I'm thinking of getting a #tangara just for that especially when I don't want to have to juggle a single battery's life for listening to things as well as navigating the city :blobcatheadphones:
Quick notes on the go are the other things I use. Alarms, not so much, except when I'm taking a night train and want to make sure not to miss my station ⏰
@jacqueline is that for the #tangara 👀
Hooray!
Got credited in the latest #tangara firmware release.
Love this project and excited to get back in and work on some more issues :3

Just started a list of compatible devices for #tangara on the forum. There's also an issue open asking for some place to add information about the tangara audio player.
I never owned or used an Apple iPod for listening to music and I really like the Tangara playing as an device independent of my phone.
Today is a day for listening to old Dream Dance mixes on my #Tangara
One of the guys brought an old mp3 player and a speaker to work to help the night along… but didn’t check what songs were loaded onto it first.
There is one song on it.
It was mutually decided that 2 hours of Linkin Park’s In The End was more than enough.
I should get a #tangara and stick my entire multi-terabyte music collection on it.
@piko Ich hatte Auxio verwendet.
