:freebsd: FreeBSD’s Grandpa — Only known Copy of UNIX V4 recovered from Tape.

UNIX version 4 is quite special on account of being the first UNIX to be written in C instead of PDP-11 ASM, but it was also considered to have been lost to the ravages of time. Joyfully, I can report that the more than fifty year old magnetic tape that was recently discovered in a University of Utah storeroom did in fact contain the UNIX v4 source code.

The second one is 'Soft Ice' by Janne Eraker. This mini-album is a new choreographic work by Janne Eraker, with Vilma Kananen, Gaëtan Farnier and Håkon Sigernes (tap dance) and Juhani Silvola (guitar). These recordings have an ASMR-like quality and are released on the premiere date of the dance piece: today! This digital only release comes with iconic artwork by Daan Botlek. And in Norway there is also a very ltd. amount of handcut vinyl by Janne Eraker 😊

Day 18 of #jamuary. The episode cue (title) didn't apply so I selected the math concept (a code book has to be decrypted) of encryption.

It is harder than it sounds to apply this to #music...

Fundamentally, it's an #ambient #piano piece. The piano is processed through reverb, #granular #synthesis & #tape delay.

Where the encryption comes in is that there is a message encoded in it through a substitution cipher. Each letter corresponds to a group of notes (chords).
