“Il tempo non ha cancellato niente: ha solo cambiato la forma del dolore”. Marta Gaia Sebastiani parla a 10 anni dalla morte di Luca Varani, il suo fidanzato dell’epoca trovato morto in un appartamento al decimo piano di via Igino Giordani, al Collatino a Roma. Avvolto in una coperta, il viso e il corpo di Luca erano stati sfigurati da 100 colpi tra martellate e coltellate. Per l’omicidio è stato condannato a 30 anni di carcere il proprietario dell’abitazione, Manuel Foffo. Con lui c’era Marco Prato, indagato per omicidio e che si è tolto la vita in carcere a poche ore dalla prima udienza.
La nuova vita di Marta Gaia Sebastiani
Intervistata da Fanpage, Marta parla di questi 10 anni in cui dice di aver “perso pezzi di me e ne ho ritrovati altri. Ho conosciuto un nuovo amore che mi ha tenuta in piedi quando pensavo di crollare per sempre. […] Ho imparato che si può amare di nuovo senza tradire chi c’era prima. Ma Luca è rimasto lì. Non è andato via. È solo diventato parte di una storia vissuta una vita fa, ma che a pensarla fa ancora parecchio male”. Nei suoi ricordi Varani vive come “un ragazzo che aveva un sorriso capace di illuminare una stanza intera, ma che nascondeva dentro un buio che non faceva vedere a nessuno […] era anche fragile, bisognoso di approvazione, con un vuoto enorme che cercava di riempire in modi sbagliati”.
La rabbia nei confronti di Luca Varani
“Ho cercato di salvarlo da sé stesso, ma non ci sono riuscita” continua ancora Sebastiani, che ammette di essere ancora “arrabbiata” con lui, “per le bugie, per i dettagli che non tornavano e che non ho avuto il coraggio di approfondire. Per avermi lasciato con domande che non avranno mai risposta. Per aver scelto di tenere nascosta una parte di sé che poi lo ha portato via“. Una rabbia difficile da gestire, perché rivolta verso qualcuno che non c’è più e non può dare le risposte che lei cerca. Da tutta questa storia Marta vuole comunque che un messaggio passi: “Non ci si può salvare da soli e che a volte, se è necessario, bisogna saper chiedere aiuto”.

Marta Gaia Sebastiani speaks 10 years after the death of Luca Varani, her boyfriend at the time, found dead in an apartment on the tenth floor of Via Igino Giordani, in Collatino, Rome. Wrapped in a blanket, Luca’s face and body were disfigured by 100 blows, including hammer blows and stabbings. The owner of the property, Manuel Foffo, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder. He was accompanied by Marco Prato, investigated for murder and who took his own life in prison just hours before the first hearing.

Interviewed by Fanpage, Marta speaks of these 10 years in which she says she has “lost pieces of herself and found others. I met a new love that kept me standing when I thought I would collapse forever. […] I learned that you can love again without betraying those who were before. But Luca remained there. He didn't leave. He simply became part of a story lived a lifetime ago, but that still causes a lot of pain when you think about it.” In her memories, Varani lives as “a boy who had a smile capable of illuminating an entire room, but who hid inside a darkness that no one could see […] he was also fragile, in need of approval, with a huge emptiness that he tried to fill in the wrong ways.”
The anger towards Luca Varani
“I tried to save him from himself, but I couldn’t,” Sebastiani continues, admitting that she is still “angry” with him, “for the lies, for the details that didn’t make sense and that I didn’t have the courage to investigate. For leaving me with questions that will never have an answer. For choosing to keep hidden a part of himself that then took him away.” A difficult anger to manage, directed towards someone who is no longer there and cannot give her the answers she seeks. Marta still wants a message to pass through all of this: “You can’t save yourself alone and sometimes, if necessary, you have to know how to ask for help.”
