I just returned from my first Society of Engineering Science conference in Minneapolis, and I had a great time!

My student presented recent work on #tessellations of #origami patterns called "flashers". Flashers can fold a polygonal sheet of material into a spirally-wrapped cylinder. I've been working with these patterns for a while, and this work showed that it's possible to tile the plane with flashers.

Here's an example of a hexagonal tiling.
