One interpretation/prediction by #TheBaffler etc is that the only people who can afford to be #journalists now has been filtered out by class through unpaid internships and low wages in expensive cities

So you can’t afford to be a journalist unless you are well off enough to do it as a vanity project (so won’t likely have a class consciousness)

Or if you’re so obsessed with the career that you’re not willing to risk your job by rocking the boat
