I spotted a Bedazzler on the shelf of my favorite thrift store in Madison yesterday, and it made me think of Adrock's lyrics in "Shazam!"
Did you ever create a time capsule? I made this one in 1976. Not sure if it was a school assignment (related to the bicentennial?), or just a fad, but I recently came across mine. Throwback from the summer of 1973. From left - me, brothers Joe and Chris at our house in Iowa. Our entire world was that house. Just saw a recent picture of it and it looks like a shoebox. Everything seems so much bigger as a kid. Despite our parents painful divorce, we’re mostly left with great memories. I mean.. were hardly exclusive as a family facing divorce.

In the winter of 1971 photographer Jim McCrary photographed Carole King for her Tapestry album. Remembering a Kodak survey that said cats were the most popular subject people photographed (after their own children), McCrary asked if he could add the sleeping cat on the other side of the room to the scene. Telemachus, the cat, only remained for three pictures ... but that was enough.
That image, and the album's music have been ingrained in my mind. I've always tried to make Tapestry the first album I play when I move into a new home because that's exactly how I want my home to feel.

April 15, 1970 a march to Harvard square protesting the Viet Nam war turned to riots
The number of protesters was estimated to be around 1,500 when they entered Harvard Square at 7pm. At 7:20pm, the street lights were turned off and police formed a blockade. Some protesters started rioting, throwing bricks, smashing windows, setting fires and taunting Harvard University students watching from their dormitories. About 2,000 police officers started charging the protesters at 8:19pm, firing tear gas. The streets were cleared at about 1am and the National Guard soldiers dismissed at 2am. A curfew imposed that evening was lifted at 6am.
314 people were treated for injuries, including 35 policemen. Damages were estimated at $100,000.
Future Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was at this event, and says it was a catalyst for his disillusionment with leftist movements and began his turn to conservatism.
