A reminder to myself on this Autumn Equinox day!
Here in the north, we're heading into the darker, colder half of the year. A time where, for many of us, self care becomes even more important.
I have a daily ritual, where I consciously stop to appreciate something beautiful, or interesting, or wonderful on my morning walks with Fester. It helps lift my mood, grounds me, and teaches me about the natural world around us here.
This practice becomes even more important in the LongColdDark!

A very chilly Autumn Equinox morning. Frost covered leaves, huge mushrooms, and returning some gifts from nature to the earth.
Also, harvested rosehips to make a syrup, and I will start a fire cider today. Time to start preparing for the Long Cold Dark!

Two large, flattish, white mushrooms growing in grass. I've included the fingers of my left hand beneath the lower of the two mushrooms to show just how big they are; considerably bigger than my hand!A dried red rose head, with 4 lines of plant matter and snail shells in a cross shape emerging from it, all on the ground with old pine needles, ivy and bigs of sticks and stuff.A brown, frost coated leaf in among green grass.

Wishing you all a delightful Autumn Equinox!

After the Equinox, in the northern hemisphere, the days will start to get shorter than the nights. We head into the darker, colder, and, for many, much harder half of the year.

This is the time my practice becomes not just a pleasure but a vital part of my wellbeing. Seeking beauty, joy, life, and wonder every day helps to make the shorter days less grim!

A lit tea light on a wooden table, surrounded by 4 each of conkers, old acorns, snail shells, and sprigs of lavender arranged around the tea light.

Beautiful autumn !

Heading into the months where my daily earth magic practice will become not just a nice thing to do, but a vital part of my wellbeing. I really struggle with the increasingly shorter, darker, colder days. Engaging with the natural world every day helps remind me there is life, joy, and beauty to be found, even in the darkness.

Leaves on the end of a fine branch. The leaves are oval, and red. There is grass and a pond behind the leaves, and a blocky white and grey building behind that.

Happy Spring Equinox!

Here's to surviving another winter, to the longer, brighter, warmer days ahead!

On a wooden table is a lit tea light in a large shell with bits of plant, stones, bones, and snail shells. Behind that is a small pale ceramic vase, with ridges running vertically down it, full of bright yellow narcissus flowers I picked from my own garden in the dawn light of the Spring Equinox.Looking out from my front door to the east, over cars and houses, to the start of sunrise. The sky is clear and pale blue, with an orange glow at the horizon.

The sun over the hills before 8am, the long dark is ending!

And a frost covered crocus head, a perfect symbol for the changing seasons!

A view over a grassy hill to some more hills in the background, with the rising sun above.A yellow crocus head I found on my morning walk, covered in frost from the night before.
