Trump’s Empire of Lies and Loot

“I am not among those who fear the people. They, and not the rich, are our dependence for continued freedom.”

Thom Hartman 6/24/25 Trump's Empire of Lies and Loot ““I am not among those who fear the people. They, and not the rich, are our dependence for continued freedom.” If all power be suffered to slide into hands [of rich property owners],” he warned, the American citizenry would “become the dupes and instruments of ambition, or their poverty and independence will render them the mercenary instruments of wealth. In either case liberty will be subverted; in the first by a despotism growing out of anarchy, in the second, by an oligarchy founded on corruption.” - Father of the Constitution James Madison “I am not among those who fear the people. They, and not the rich, are our dependence for continued freedom.” - Declaration of Independence author Thomas Jefferson [Thomas Jefferson] added with the warning that if we were ever to end up with an oligarchic government that was run, directly or indirectly, by wealthy predators who'd seized our government, America’s working people. “...that man is the only animal which devours his own kind, for | can apply no milder term to the governments of Europe, and to the general prey of the rich on the poor.”

“Determining that the actions of #WilliamBlount, a senator from #Tennessee, constituted a crime, #JohnAdams sent Blount's letter to the Senate, where it was presented on July 3, 1797, while Blount was out for a walk.

“When Blount returned, the clerk read the contents of the letter aloud as Blount stood in stunned silence. Vice President #ThomasJefferson asked Blount if he had written the letter.”

Hanging out with Tom on the way to work, who reminded me that he would "rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it."

He might not have much to say these days, being locked in bronze and all, but I'm onboard. 🚇🗽📜

Could 54% of #American adults who read at below a 6th grade level articulate the rights and values of being a citizen of the ##AmericanRepublic?

Is there consensus on the #CommonWelfare of #WeThePeople?

A few favorite pics from our 2013 visit to Washington DC.
The first pic, of the Washington Monument, taken from across the Tidal Basin, looks like a postcard.. The lighting was just right.
The second is the Jefferson Memorial framed by the cherry blossoms.
The third features tourists enjoying DC's famous cherry blossom festival along the Potomic Park Tidal Basin.
The last photo is the Washington Monument peeking up through the cherry blowwoms. You can see the scafolding that was in place. The giant obelisk was being repaired after a rare earthquake hit the East Coast in 2011.

Office chairs turn out to have a much longer history than I expected. The first known swivel chair for use in an office is credited to Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826). It was altered over time to include a writing surface.
