I had a fun little excursion yesterday to the Wildkatzenzentrum in Barnim (https://www.wildkatzen-barnim.de), a conservation centre you can visit. Was definitely interesting, especially with the stories of some of the animals (that ended up) there.

This is Diego, as far as the story goes, he was left abandoned as a baby in front of a nearby vet, and after a lot of back and forth (he was of unknown origin and heritage, probably from a circus, so other zoos or conservation centers did not want to "waste" space for him) he is living out his life in Barnim.

This is Heike, she is similarly a mix with some siberian tiger in there, and was also brought in to get Diego (who was hand-raised) less focussed on people but on another tiger. Since she is a white tiger, like every other one of these, she descends from a single parent somewhere in the middle of the 20th century (it is a rare mutation and significantly reduces fitness for hunting in the wild, but once people found it, they were severely inbred because they looked different).

Here is some progress of how the tiger was made. I layed down a white base to make the colors pop a bit more and it seems to have worked :) If there's anyone out there more experienced with the medium feel free to let me knowif there's another way to achieve brighter colors on toned paper.

After long long long, I've picked up just colored pencils and made something. These are often viewed as art supply's for children but you sure can make some amazing work if you put your mind to it. and I really like the end result!
