#totalsolareclipse

What they don't tell you about total solar eclipses is the sky darkens right over you, and at the horizon you see a sunrise/sunset effect...only it's in every direction. Truly breathtaking. My capture of a particularly sublime one on April 8, 2024: "Ultimate Shadow".

This was totality — photographed from my parents’ yard in Southern Illinois during the April 8, 2024 eclipse.

The sun’s corona was blazing, and we could even see flares along the edge.

A moment of awe, silence, and cosmic perspective.

Photograph of the total solar eclipse during totality, taken from a yard in Southern Illinois on April 8, 2024. The sun is completely eclipsed by the moon, with its bright white corona radiating in fine detail. A couple of solar flares appear as small red or pinkish arcs on the edge of the eclipse. The sky is dark, and the scene has a dramatic, almost otherworldly quality.

@jeffluszcz Cool, enjoy! I flew into Boston and drove north to Houlton, Maine for the total solar eclipse last year (I didn't live anywhere near the path of totality). Got this poster, some other souvenirs, and most of all an awesome experience. I was standing under that clocktower during totality.

A framed drawn poster hanging on a white wall, primarily featuring a clocktower in the foreground and the totally eclipsed Sun in the background, along with text. It reads in stylized all-caps:

"Visit
Houlton
Maine

The Final Destination for
The Great North American
Total Solar
Eclipse

Apr. 8 2024"

The clocktower shows the time as 3:33 (in the afternoon by implication), the moment of maximum eclipse. The date is shown right below the clocks on adjacent faces of the tower.

This is probably always going to be the coolest #picture I've ever taken

Seeing a
#TotalSolarEclipse was as close as I've ever felt to a religious experience, and I hope I can give my partner that gift in 2024

This was taken in
#Nashville during the last #SolarEclipse. It was also one of the last times I saw my Nonny alive

I'm particularly proud of the alt text on this

The picture depicts a total solar eclipse. Most of the sky is completely dark. The sun is a dark void surrounded by a white flame that seems to glow without illuminating anything. In the bottom right, the sun is just barely peaking through, appearing as a bright flare.

In the background you can see various stars. They each have a visibly different color, but they are faint enough that you might miss them if you weren't looking. Each star appears with a slight double image, because I was shaking the camera a bit too much

Even in space this can't be a common occurrence, yet this darling is acting like it is, tuning into invisible waves as she pivots and twirls to the music of the spheres. Or something like that.

My artwork, "Dance into the double eclipse in the orange swirl nebula".

At the end of totality the sun begins to appear as a bright spot on the right side of the moon, creating the appearance of a shining jewel on a diamond ring. Memorable moment number 3: SO MANY CELESTIAL EVENTS! It began with the #Eclipse in April, where I traveled to Vermont to my parents' house, which was right in the path of totality, as was able to watch with my whole fam. It was truly awe inspiring and I still look back on it and smile.

A composite photo of the 2024 eclipse, compiled from two 6x6 film frames taken by a Ricohflex TLR on Fuji Pro400H film. The photo shows a dramatic sunset-like foreground scene with silhouettes of trees, and a dramatic dark sky with a total solar eclipse framing a black sun in the top center.

When the moon kisses the sun, and you go "wow" as your eyes meet the telescope, scrambling to capture a moment that may never come again...

A slice of my life in Indiana during the April 8, 2024 total solar eclipse: "Atmospheres".

I guess I can join #PortfolioDay today. I do amateur astrophotography. I spend most of my time on deep space targets, but I had the opportunity to go see and photograph the total solar eclipse this past April.

Here are a few of my favorite photos I've taken of the amazing stuff that's out there.

#astrophotography #space #nebula #galaxy #TotalSolarEclipse

The Horsehead Nebula is a dark cloud in front of a red cloud of dust that has some almost vertical striations above the Horsehead and a horizontal line that's brighter and goes behind the middle of the Horsehead. The Flame Nebula is to the left of the Horsehead and rotated about 90 degrees counterclockwise. It looks like a flame, but instead of the flames going up, they radiate from a point. The nebula is mostly orange, with a little bit of blue and a dark structure that runs through it, like the trunk and branches of a tree.Spiral galaxy in an oval shape. The center is white, then fades to orange, then to blue as you get farther from the center. There are many red regions in the galaxy, which are emphasized hydrogen regions. the rest of the frame is dark grey with many colorful stars.in the center of the frame is a nebula that resembles a head of garlic. it's mostly red, with some blue around the left edgeThe sun's corona during a total solar eclipse. In the center is a dark circle, with white rays emitted from all sides. On the top left there is a ray that's bigger than the rest, and on the bottom a couple that are more prominent than those around them.

Taken in the heat of the moment through my telescope lens: it honestly doesn't come close to fully capturing the awesomeness, but this picture, which I call "Atmospheres", does convey some of what I experienced on April 8, 2024.

Sunrise? Sunset? No, something much more awesome, that wraps around the horizon and you can see approaching at lightning-speed from the distance. The motions of the stars, made real. My capture of last April's total solar eclipse: "Ultimate Shadow".

Over-the-top, yes, but who wouldn't want to slip on some heart-pumping beats and move your beautiful body in the shadow of double totality? My painting, "Dance into the double eclipse in the orange swirl nebula".
