In 2012 I lived in Iceland and was part of mini campaign against touristification. We framed the term "puffinication" (Icelandic: lundavæðing)

Visiting my friends and family I see that this fight is totally lost. In down town Reykjavik the communally run garden/square, alternative music venue, café with anarchist library etc. is gone and now there hotels instead and the rent for i inhabitants are crasy!

It's makes me look at the tourists and wish them away.

Friends, neighbours, people of the Fediverse: if you are planning to come to #Spain on holiday, please reconsider it. Drought is being severe, there's water restrictions put in place (in winter! which means that this summer is going to be worse) and the #touristification is getting intense (as in "it's getting difficult to find a place to live in most big cities and we can't get teachers and doctors in tourist traps like Ibiza because there's no way they can put a roof over their heads").

When I was last in Iceland, I bought the complete road atlas that tells you about every detail of local history and topology for each road of the country. It even lists things like "first concrete building in this part of the country" and I loved it for these details! But that was 20 years ago, before the total #touristification. Your pictures bring back nice memories. Thanks for sharing them.

the city centre is full of tourists, who photograph people, who live here, as they are in the zoo or disposed at the market.

those recognised as presumably-female sometimes get "special treatment" - the invasive recording , following and molestation.

all in all, who can´t hate touristification and gentrification?
