4 years ago a bought a toy from a charity shop. Thanks to this code I got it to work:
github.com/RogerHardiman/tenx_ alread old code!

I then put it away because who knows?

This week I Discovered a spring was not working so joined a #tt #TransitionTown #RepairCafe and she fixed it! Thank you @DamonHD for telling me about the repair cafe!

Dug out the code and the notes I wrote for myself in the future (in issue tracker) and got it working as good as it was!

Free for a good home! #Hacking

I will be visiting a school (the one I used to be governor of) to help in due course move them away from gas heating and towards zero emissions. But all this requires today is some photos of gas boilers I think! I will also see if I can check that the solar I put in is still running.

Later I will be chairing the of and there will be snacks, and drinks!

Tomorrow/Thursday will be at for a /#ECR conference - I will present my .

Transition. It can mean different things to different people. Here's what it means to some of the many local changemakers involved in our movement - and why it's important...

"What I started it was all about sustainability and climate change - now I know it's about community..."

Community climate hub, SERO has re-opened in new high street premises in Carmarthen, with it’s New2You children’s swap shop, repair cafe, seed library, scrapstore, library of things and lively series of events.

The hub’s aim is to make it easier to engage with climate action and which demonstrates a new kind of economy. One which values and normalises sharing and repairing above consuming, which connects people with neighbours and with lost skills.

Thanks to a Transition Together seed-funding grant supported by The National Lottery Community Fund, last year they were able to employ Siobhan as Welsh language worker to offer their activities and programmes to both Welsh and English speakers.

This weekend, they’ll celebrate St David’s Day with a bilingual crafts workshop.

Last week, we were privileged to take a journey to the future with Rob Hopkins.

He shared about his forthcoming book for the first time and had advice for activists on how to give people a window into what a positive future can look, smell, sound and taste like, as a way to inspire and engage folks with the action we need to take to build it.

Watch back the recording of this brilliant session, which ranged from the landscape of beavers to Afrofuturism, music recordings to sound out the future to how art is paving the way for us to imagine different solutions. It is an inspiring way to start your year!

Bridgehouse Gardens community group in South London has been on an incredible journey.

Together, they have transformed a disused, vacant tarmac site into a thriving forest garden and built by hand a new community learning space, The Winslade Barn. Along the way, participants have learnt amazing practical skills, built community and created space for wildlife.

How do you like our Transition Assembly picture?

Created by amazing illustrator and screen-printer Imogen Donegan, we love how she’s captured the way the Assembly will bring us and the different threads of experience we hold together in a strong and vibrant pattern.

It’s just seven weeks away - and we’d love to see you there. If you or your group been invited to attend, you have until 17 January to book and claim your place. Then these tickets will be released to allow other people who are waiting for a space to attend.

Something to get in your new diary for the New Year...

As we approach the first Transition Assembly, join Transition co-founder Rob Hopkins on 15 January for a sneak peek at his forthcoming book (June 2025) “How To fall in love with the future: A Time Traveller’s Guide to Changing the World”.

He'll also share a glimpse of his 'Field Recordings from the Future' music project scheduled for release at the same time and discuss how he imagines what's next for our communities, the Transition Movement and our world, why 'Cat-Women of the Moon' might be one of the most important films ever made, and why the cultivation of longing is one of the most vital skills for us to master.

Transition group @playthinkbrink welcomed broadcaster and activist Chris Packham for campfire tea and chat at their meantime use space in the centre of Belfast recently.

Gawain Morrison, co-founder of Brink, said: "Just as it was about to snow, we sat round our fire pit & chatted about this part of the city, the heritage growing project on the site, with our partners Grow NI & quarto, the broken food system, renewables, activism & punk bands. Not a bad way to start the morning."

The project aims to spark conversations and new thinking about how their city of Belfast can transition to a better future. Chris added a message on heritage linen to their story ring: “Winning is not giving up and the fuel is love and rage”

We're forming a Just Transition Circle, to deepen our work to put justice, equity and care for all at the centre of our work to foster community-led change.

It's the next step in our Just Transition project, and will be led by people with lived experience of being marginalised in our society and in climate and social movements. We're looking for eight people to bring a mix of voices and experiences and join us in this exploration.

What if... land, property, public spending benefited communities, supported fair jobs and shared wealth with many not just a few?

Just Transition Wakefield has been exploring that with Unite Community Leeds & Wakefield and Climate Action Leeds and shared the story of "Wealth In Our Hands", an event building a coalition for Community Wealth Building...

Desperate about politics as usual? We know the feeling...

Assemblies are one way that ordinary people are re-imagining how politics could be. In these times, the way we listen to one another, think creatively together and decide on our best next steps is crucial to do better.

Politics as usual deadens our ability to respond and care: new politics brings us together and uses processes that take us beyond polarisation into a deeper understanding of one another and our world.

Join us this evening at 7.30pm to hear more about how this could work where you live - and how the Transition Assembly in February could bring our movement together to re-imagine and re-create the future...

Register for free and join us for this special Practising Transition webinar, celebrating the release of The Regeneration Handbook: Transform Yourself to Transform the World by Transition Network’s Training Coordinator Don Hall!

Deeply rooted in the history of the Transition Movement, The Regeneration Handbook builds on “The Five Stages of Transition” from Rob Hopkins’ Transition Companion to present a clear and accessible pathway for deepening, broadening, and scaling up any community-based changemaking initiative over time. It also offers a bold new vision for unleashing a “second wave of Transition” that could end up being orders of magnitude bigger than its first.

This event will be hosted by Deborah Benham, co-Lead Link for Transition Network. Following Don’s presentation, there will be time for Q&A and small group discussions to interrogate and explore these provocative ideas.

It’s Libraries Week and we’re celebrating the many different libraries of all sorts run by Transition Groups.

Like Share Portsmouth, running a library of things and repair cafe base out of a shopping centre in the middle of their town, making it easier for folks to get hold of items they use occasionally without having to buy, ship, store or chuck them once they are no longer needed.

Transitioners in towns, cities and rural areas are running libraries of things, helping their communities become more connected and resilient, and people to share what they have and get what they need at much lower cost to their pockets and the planet.

Visit or join your local Library of things, or spread the word and see who's interested in starting one in your area and let’s make this as handy and widespread as possible!

Some examples we're celebrating today! Sustainable Tiverton's Share Shop Tiverton - A Library of Things, Transition Buxton Zero Carbon Guildford SERO Kew The Transition Little Seed Library Sustainable Starts children's clothes and nappy libraries, Exmouth Library of Things, and Crystal Palace Transition Town helped start the first Library of Things in London, The Green House St Albans and Transition Leytonstone have fab collections of environmental books to lend.
And taking inspiration from the many other libraries of things across the country! The Edinburgh Tool Library Share Shed - A Library of Things SHARE Oxford Bath Share & Repair, Hull Library of Stuff and more!
