**The Trevor Project Birtthday Fundraiser.**
My birthday is October 12th. Every year for several years now I’ve run a birthday fundraiser for The Trevor Project who has had a suicide prevention hotline for transgender youth for years. It’s super important to provide services like this to keep these young people alive and well. It’s why I do it and have done it so much. I’m not transgender. And I don’t have to be to care for the transgender youth who may be struggling mentally. Not wanting people to die is a pretty fucking low bar for empathy. It’s also a bar Trump and other republicans haven’t risen above. They’ve stripped a lot of similarly federal funded resources like this hotline this year. Why? I assume because they don’t care if these young people live or die. You don’t end life-saving services because you love someone. You wouldn’t take away life-saving medication from your loved ones because you love them. That makes no sense. If you love or care for people, you want them to have access to life-saving care.
So, that said, this year I want to raise way more than my little Trevor fundraisers have ever raised. Because these suicide prevention hotlines can mean the difference between a young person living or dying. And the resources and hotlines like these are being taken away by our current government. And that’s morally and ethically wrong.
If you can, please consider giving. If you can give more than most folks, please do. It’s really important right now that these kinds of resources be available.
