So my dad is in the #ER. I'm talking about it because I'm about 90% sure of what got him there and the root cause is being a boomer guy who won't go to #therapy.
You see, my dad did a short stint as an #ICU patient a few years ago. Coma for a month, multiple surgeries, failure of every single organ, the whole shebang. He survived and is almost back to normal as of a few months ago. What he didn't do though is take care of his #MentalHealth. So, tonight, he was casually chatting with some relatives on zoom when the photo of a cousin's #surgery came up. His brain checked out for a couple of minutes and, apparently, so did his blood pressure. He had a little one on one with the floor and my mom called 911.
He was fine but sheepish when the #ambulance arrived. They decided to get him to the #hospital anyway just to make sure nothing else comes up, because the ICU thing was after a surgery for 2 congenital heart malformations (we're in Canada, it's free).
If you've been through something #traumatic and never sought psychological help because you're "fine", NO YOU'RE NOT. And I'm looking at you, my dude who's pushing 70 and wouldn't be caught dead crying on a leather sofa after being asked "tell me about your relationship with your mother". There are support groups for almost everything, if you can't afford therapy. That mentality of being fine can stay in the 70ies. Go talk to someone. Your wife doesn't count as a therapist.

Granted the first half I was literally mid mental breakdown and I basically insane after a very #traumatic few years.

Watching A24 #horror films is almost #traumatic. Leaving you with a mild PTSD where you don't know if you can ever watch a horror movie again. I don't think it is because I am older, I think it is because there really has been a shift in tone and style. Today's horror films have more in common with #dogme95. Those films are bleak, disturbing, and painful to experience.

I was a special needs 🏡🏥 homehealth pediatric nurse. I was not 🙌 appreciated. I had to try and please the family members who sometimes constantly looked over my shoulder to make sure my every move is ok. I sometimes had to be a family mediator when a 🥊 domestic fight broke out. I just got 🤢 sick of it all.
