A close-up of red clover (Trifolium pratense; Wiesenklee) in full bloom fills the foreground, its dense, rounded flower heads glowing with rich pink and purple hues, surrounded by lush green grasses. In the background, the yellow blossoms of common bird’s-foot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus; Hornklee).
I always feel a sense of joy when I see clover flourishing in our meadows. The cows love grazing on it—it’s rich in fiber and crude protein, making it excellent forage.
Clover also improves the soil by fixing nitrogen from the air, enriching humus, and loosening the soil structure.
Not to mention, red clover is a vital food source for many insects, especially bees, bumblebees, and butterflies, all of whom thrive in its presence.
