Another song I might vote for in the #ozhottest100 will be Itch-E & Scratch-E - Sweetness and Light.
Whilst associated with an infamous speech at the ARIA awards, the song itself stands up perfectly 32 years on. The imperfections of analogue synths makes this song hum with energy.

I actually think the Triple J Hottest 100 from 1996 is the perfect playlist.
When shuffled, the balance of musical genres is always perfect, no matter the sequence.
It is *so* good, that I will even listen to Powederfinger and You Am I without skipping... despite those bands shitting me to tears.

Fellow old people. Now that the #hottest100 is out of the way, and all the popular TikTok songs have been accounted for, tune in to the hottest 200-100 on #jjj #triplej tomorrow. It’s where all the songs you voted for end up. Fingers crossed - I’ve still got Sycco, Telenova, the Buoys, 3%, Willo and Hayden James unaccounted for.
I did want to point out that Bring Me The Horizon have had at least one song in the Hottest 100 for 10 out of the last 12 years.
Heavy bands are generally pretty rare in that time frame. I would say I’m a pretty big fan of their music, so I’ll take this as a win.

Seriously, having such an openly queer song by such an openly queer artist, who is so vocally supportive of trans people and gender nonconformity, and whose music isn’t just about the struggles of being queer but about the joys and struggles of *life* as a queer person, rise to such a level of mainstream popularity as Chappell Roan has is honestly something that makes me feel a tiny bit more like we are not alone in this truly terrifying political era. #hottest100 #triplej
