“You may not buy any more books until you read the ones you already have” are some of the meanest words in the history of humanity.

Interesting to read. Not going to read the sequel.
I want to die but I want to eat tteokbokki by baek sehee.

Article [1] confirms I am not alone in buying books without reading them. I carried two books for a train journey recently. I read very little. Other tasks took precedence. The journey occurred at night. I felt tired before boarding. I might have read more during daytime.
Author Asma Siddiqui states she cannot read all purchased books immediately. Life sometimes creates obstacles. The book may be difficult to understand at certain times. The subject might be complex. She owns many unread books collected over years.
The article mentions a Japanese term for this phenomenon. That term is tsundoku. It describes the practice of acquiring books and letting them pile up unread. People intend to read these books later.
Tsundoku is the most recognized single word for this phenomenon. Other languages lack direct equivalents. No other language has an exact single word for this concept.

Ooh, interesting article arrives, just as my #tsundoku pile diminishes.

today I learnt about #Tsundoku and it makes me feel better 🥲
A colleague was really enthousiastic about this book.
Really thin, she said. So I bought it and it just arrived. I thought I would be adding another 224 pages to my #tsundoku-stack.
But agree, this book is quite small ( fits handbag) and looks interesting. 🤩 Train-reading-material. 🚂
Added these two to my #tsundoku list while I browsed #books at Literary Arts today:
1) “How to Resist Amazon and Why” by Danny Caine: https://www.bookstore.literary-arts.org/item/-K4ellCgote_Okmq1id8tg (from Microcosm Publishing in #Portland!)
2) “A History of Women in 100 Objects” by Maggie Andrews and Janis Lomas: https://www.history.org.uk/historian/resource/9394/a-history-of-women-in-100-objects (took a photo of the first page of the “Safety Bicycle” section for my #BikeTooter friends!)
