Eine Terekay-Schienenschildkröte (Podocnemis unifilis) steht mit hochgerecktem Hals auf einem Felsen am Ufer eines Flusses.
Die Tiere erreichen eine Länge von bis zu 45 cm und ein Gewicht von bis zu 8 Kilogramm. Die Männchen sind kleiner und leichter als die Weibchen. Der Rückenschild ist olivgrün bis bräunlich gefärbt. Die gelben Flecken auf dem Kopf sind kennzeichnend für die Art.

I had my first turtle road crossing this afternoon: Massive snapper crossing a busy state route. She was longer than my shovel and I accidentally flipped her upside down at first. But she made it. 😀🐢 🐍
No photos of her, but she was about the same size as this one.

Another shot of #AndyTheTortoise but this one with me as we make our way from his vivarium to the house, where he spends the winter, closer to us. I would never have thought I would ever become so attached to a reptile. Although I’ve only cared for him 14 years, I have “known” him 25!
