Ui, ui, ui!!!

Also, it should focus on an aerodynamic optimized, i.e. in every case longitudinal orientated storage volume. But bonus points for provisions to change it to an across position if the event calls for super extra storage volume and aerodynamics take a back seat.

And! Bike brands need to design their integrated cockpits always, always, always with aerobar compatibility in mind!

...
b) Crucially such an ultracycling focused aerobar system should address the needed upward and especially rearward range of mounting positions in regard to a typical road bike, gravel bike and mountain bike handlebar and rider fit. Which is different to a base bar of a TT or Tri rig.

So when I wish for aerobars developed with special consideration for ultracycling and bikepacking I should add two points:

a) I should at least mention the Baryak and the VAP Butterfly solutions. Both pretty similar but also both not considered aerobars per se by me, although they feature optional (and rather minimalistic) arm rests.

I consider them more like multifunctional rollbag harnesses. For sure an interesting problem solver, but not what I have in mind here.

Reading their development approach makes me wish someone would make a similar approach but aimed at ultracycling and gravel racing.

I.e. adaptable to a variety of handlebars, sufficient rise, mounting provisions for medium to big sized gps units (also quick swapable for supermarket stops), for smartphones and lights as well as aero-packs (maybe even providing special integrated ones in the same sense as there are a few hydration solutions for Triathlon).

Just read this while browsing the “Bikes Of” post on dotwatcher.cc (dotwatcher.cc/feature/bikes-of):

> Bike: Polo & Bike fixed gear, built at the very last moment after *the bicycle I’d used since 2018 was stolen on Constanța beach, right after finishing TCRno11.*

That must suck. Sergey cycled across the continent to finish only to have his legendary bike stolen at the finish line!

Die Fahrt zum Parcours 4 beim #tprno5 ist ein super Beispiel für die #Ultracycling Events mit freier Routenwahl. love it!

Ponderings for 2026: New super long bikepacking event, Via Race Chapter III registration started, interesting route into and through Norway, longing for a long smooth pure gravel event (do you know such?) and more events I'd already like to do in 2026. Namely Taurus Mountain Race, AlpsDivide Ultra and Badlands (whats not possible / feasible... 🙈😅)

Read the slides for details... 😃

While I'm already agonizing (read enjoying the process over what bikepacking races / events to do in 2026), this ... monster? just entered left field...

5.000 kilometers, 100.000 meters of climbing, all the Alps, Massif Central, Pyrenees all the way to Santiago de Compostela.
I find this dangerously appealing... 🙈On that note: yesterday the registration for ©via_race, chapter Ill started.

And I'm already checking all this places in Norway which reveal themselves as basically the highlight reel of VisitNorway.deI never was in Scandinavia (and thus Norway) yet and already from a nerdy map-lovers point of view I'd love to extend my connected rides (see that @veloviewer interview this week) all the way to the Atlantic Road.

But will I be content with being "just" in Norway? (as opposed to cross many European countries in one go?) Do I want to "return" to the road? I love smooth tarmac and the elation of gliding effortlessly across the land.
And yet I really don't like traffic anymore...

Actually I'd want to do a race of something around 2.000 km, but on smooth gravel. Something to speed along, to feel the flow. Not to hike over goat paths. Really riding.

But such a route would be very ncredibly hard to put together. Anywher in the world, I guess. In Europe? Nigh impossible.
Do you know something along those lines?I'm also pondering La Peripherie for Summer.

And in autumn I'm really keen to join the inaugural @taurusmountainrace.

But I'd also love to return to the AlpsDivide Ultra. And 2026 will be its last edition. 😞

Maybe I should do a "Julie Double" like she did with Badlands and AlpsDivide this year?

Speaking of @badlandscc, l'd really want to re-visit that, too! 🙈

Ah, Japanese Odyssey is also doing ferries. Kind of makes sense. I assume they didn't get inspired by this years TCR but had them in in previous edition. Also, it's not a race (with leaderboard and all), so it doesn't get as important for the riders?

Is there some sort of crew exchange website for and ?

Two years ago, doctors told me that I would probably never walk properly again, let alone run. I refused to accept that, and thanks to a dedicated physical therapist, I have achieved my goal and am now largely symptom-free.

I don't want to risk that, so I'm now turning my attention to new challenges.

This morning, I registered for the road version of #NordicChase2026. 🚴😎
