What should a "Portfolio" for a programmer look like? I have been asked three times in the last two weeks to provide a portfolio for computer programming or game development jobs. What should this look like? Why is 18 years experience not enough anymore? What exactly do recruiters look for on such things considering they have no clue about technical jobs in general? I have asked others and they feel this is a bizarre ask.

in the 2010s, now in my 40s and having transitioned, I found it impossible to find gainful employment in my field, due to severe anti-#LGBT and #ageism #discrimination. I tried for years, sending out hundreds of applications + resumes. I couldn't even get a job as a part-time retail clerk, even though I had formerly been the Purchasing Manager for a 35K+ SKU specialty retailer, prior to my career in IT. I ended up grossly #underemployed in the nonprofit sector, where I've been now for 8 years.

80% of #neurodivergent people are (like me) #underemployed or #unemployed. Traditional #interview processes, #openplan offices and the need to comply with social expectations stop us gaining and retaining gainful employment. We are #DisabledByDesign, #disabled by majority *choice*.

But valuing us only for our economic output, or adding "new skillsets" and "#inspiration to a workplace" is not #inclusion. It is dehumanizing.
