At the end of the roll while burning the last frames, we have a good miss focused one.

That paint on the wall was something that was bring my attention during the week and I'd liked to capture it along with someone in the frame. I've liked a frame without too much tilt up in the lens, so I need to be a bit distant. So, I did.

I was a bit late, so I got the photo of the first person passing by. Luckly the person was using the glass, even lucklier they adjust the glass at the moment I clicked. The focus? Slighty out, but this works either way.

A Precarious Equilibrium
This is how sometimes I feel, like a chair stacked on the top of a table in a precarious equilibrium...

A black-and-white photograph shows an old wooden chair stacked on top of another, creating a tall, slightly unstable structure that looks like a makeshift totem. The chairs are weathered, with peeling paint and rough grain, and one of them has faint chalk writing across the top slat. Behind them is the exterior wall of a pawn shop in Sheffield, with bricks, a metal mailbox, and scattered second-hand objects forming a textured, cluttered backdrop. The overall mood is quiet and slightly melancholic, evoking themes of reuse, decay, and the life cycle of everyday things.

Numerous railroad tracks lead to a space below buildings, which is Union Station. Willis Tower and other high-rise buildings are to the right. Two disconnected bilevel Superliner cars and a single level Horizon car sit on yard tracks in the foreground.

I walked along Roosevelt Rd, across Chicago River. Chicago once had 6 major intercity passenger train stations, which were used by different railroad companies. These tracks lead to LaSalle St Station, which is used by Metra at present. Other major intercity train stations in operation: Union Station, Ogilvie, and Millennium Station. Dearborn Station is no longer in operation but the building is still there, a mostly empty office building in 2024. I visited all of them in this trip. #chicago #architecture #urbanphotography #railroad #skyscraper #goldenhour #darktable

Looking down many interlocking railroad tracks. The track lead towards downtown Chicago, which has some early 20th century buildings as well as modern skyscrapers. Mostly cloudy.

I arrived in Chicago on July 4, 2024. The train managed to make up some time on day 3, so while at one point we were definitely more than 2 hours late, we arrived in Chicago about 1 hour late. I stayed at Hostelling International which has great location, and this is the view from my room, right above the Loop for the L (shorthand for elevated) trains. The bunk bed had a curtain for privacy, which made it look like the roomette. So when I was half asleep, I thought I was still on the train, "It looks like it, it sounds like it (thanks to the L trains downstairs), but I'm confused -- why doesn't it *move* like it?" #chicago #urbanphotography #trains #darktable
Old elevated tracks run beneath modern skyscrapers. A train was in a curve on an elevated track.
