A young black bear looking for salmon on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

Interesting to observe them (from a safe and respectful distance) and see their different characters. This young bear had the attitude of a teenager, challenging the alpha bear in the group and trying to get salmon from others.

Pale green lichen covers the bark of a tree. It has the texture of a dust bunny; bubbles and bumps and smears. This lichen is composed of tiny balls of algae wrapped in fungal hyphae (hair-thin threads). A few leafy structures at upper right are another lichen, Cladonia sp., as is the erect stalk at lower right, a fruiting body of that same Cladonia.

A sea otter (Enhydra lutris) emerges from the sea after looking for crabs and clams in a kelp bed. I was sitting on a rocky outcrop on the edge of the water hoping that it would come closer so I could get a clear shot with my telephoto lens.

This is one of my favourite photos of mushrooms taken in one of my favourite places for photography. That forest never disappoints. There are black bears, beavers, river otters, minks, barred owls, bald eagles, herons, red-tailed hawks, and many other bird species. That's where I go when I need a break. Pack a lunch, water bottle and my camera.

I hope you have the chance to go outside this weekend.

Dozens of little brown mushrooms grouped together on green grass. There is dew on the grass and a small maple leaf is resting on the side of the cluster of mushrooms. Photo taken at ground level.

"Use one thumb sized piece of ginger."

We found a perfect thumb sized piece of #ginger that also resembled a thumb 😊👍

I like all the different textures and colours of these trees and plants in a marsh in Cumberland, BC. It reminds me of pointillism.

J'aime bien les différentes textures et couleurs des arbres et des plantes dans ce marécage. Ça me rappelle le pointillisme.

A marsh with dry yellow grass in the foreground and different types of bushes and trees in the background. Some have small yellow leaves, others have small green leaves, some bush have red branches, one tall tree is covered by lichen. There is a lot of texture from the vegetation.

One of favourites from my little trip to Tofino this last weekend. It was perfect weather while we were there. This is from Cox Bay.

Started out using a coleman camping cooler lol!
“The recipe traces back to an early experiment by former sales manager Rick Adam, who first tested smoke flow using a modified Coleman camping cooler – a trial that eventually evolved into the specialized smoke room the company uses today.
The final product is smoked with locally sourced Vancouver Island wood, lending it what the company calls a distinctive “West-Coast flavour.””

Mama bear and her cub on the shore on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. They were looking for something to eat.

A black bear cub walking very closely to its mother on sandstones. Some rocks are covered by a green algae. A creek runs in the background.
