They bloom at night, this was the first one (on the full moon) and hand-pollinated since there aren't many pollinators at night. Looks like it worked since the fruit is developing.

Another native #fruit from the #Amazon !

Tangy, salty, and bursting with flavour all year long, it's easy to imagine how the #passionfruit got its name. Here at #FincaDelSoul we mostly grow the yellow form, Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa (known as #maracuyá in most of western #Amazonia), which is more suited to the ultra-tropical climate of the lowland #AmazonRainforest. Sometimes the #Passiflora vines get devoured in caterpillar season, but these are going strong!

Are you passionate about #Reforestation and #SustainableLiving ? Do you want to grow (and eat!) a radical #abundance of fruit? Finca Del Soul is currently accepting volunteers to help us grow this movement, spread the abundance, and climb all over everything ugly until it gets shaded out and strangled and eventually disintegrates. (This offer is not available in stores.)

On November 15, SF joins the People Over Billionaires Global Day of Action.

As world leaders stall on climate action in Belém, and as authoritarian attacks escalate in the United States while billionaires push a “billionaires-first agenda,” working people and frontline communities are taking to the streets, from the Amazon to San Francisco, to say: enough.

Rollinia mucosa, formerly Rollinia deliciosa and still muy deliciosa for us, is a native #Amazon #rainforest #fruit tree that is widely adapted and (unlike many of its cultivated congeners) grows well in areas with a high water table. It sprouts up like a weed at #FincaDelSoul as the birds scatter seeds across the the landscape and aid us in the #reforestation effort and the stewardship of an abundant #FoodForest ecosystem. The fruit is more goopy than most of its Annona relatives, without well-defined carpels, and it has a very pleasant custardy texture with a sweet and slightly tangy flavour that is maybe something between cherimoya and caimito. Here our new friend and valued #volunteer is harvesting the last fruit of the season, about to enjoy a small sample of the deliciousness that is possible when we grow together with the forest and plant #TreesNotGrass.

Great fruit, great friends, great aspirations. Finca Del Soul is accepting volunteers to co-create a new paradigm of #SustainableLiving and #FoodFreedom here in the #AmazonRainforest and set a positive example that others can emulate.

Coming along nicely. I grew it from the top of a bought one. Straight in the soil. I feel a tiny circular economy is brewing!

we’re confident that our biggest issue in our #garden this year was lack of organic matter in our beds (since this was our first year #gardening and we didn’t have any #compost to start off with).

to address this, we’re trying a few different things:
- a tumbling composter primarily for kitchen scraps (mixed with various brown material)
- mesh composters filled with invasive/exotic plants, hay, leaves, and used hemp bedding, in layers
- an old plastic composter that i neglected last year, to be left open over winter to finish decomposing
- “chop and drop” on some of our beds

#compost enthusiasts: i’d be so grateful for your thoughts! does this seem like a sensible approach to maximize compost for next year? we live in a temperate climate where it doesn’t remain below freezing for long

boosts encouraged!

This kale has been providing us leaves and their omega3s for 3 years non-stop. . No fertilisers, no pesticides. Aphids have just taken up residence, as they have before. Ladybirds soon follow.
